Bar Rescue: Will The Chicken Bone Get Its Wings? (Obama unc hangout)
Spike TV ^ | 8/30/11 | raccoonradio

11 minute excerpt from Spike TV show about a man who helps "save" bars, in this case a place in Framingham, MA which has been in the news lately. Apparently the president's uncle was there last week for Wed. night "bone-oke" and he had an encounter with the local constabulary, who may or may not have acted "stupidly" in his opinion. Click link to see an 11 min. excerpt from the show. Read below for my own comments about going there about a yr ago.

Howie Carr list ping.
My onetime experience with this place was Aug 8 of LAST year, when NYC’s Gas House Gorillas, a funtime blues/R&B/rock band played. I was there on a Sunday night and enjoyed it. Got there about 45 min before “God’s favorite R&B band”, as they call themselves, took to the stage and I said hi to the lead singer (I play their stuff on college radio).

I had steak tips which were tasty, and a nice salad, with a beer. A bit later I munched on mozzarella sticks (really should have prob had them as appetizer but whatever) and had another beer or two. I stopped drinking at a certain time so that I’d have no problems driving home. Place seemed clean to me—maybe it went to hell a bit later, when this was filmed. The band was a lot of fun, interacting with the audience and the bar staff, etc. I caught some glimpses of the TV, where Yankees were beating the Red Sox, ugh. But I had a good time and the food and beer seemed
fine.

Again maybe it went to hell later on...I’ll say this: they just got a lot of free publicity.

"Family restaurants can work. Family BARS do not work! People don't want to have their kids looking at a bunch of liquor bottles."

Well I have seen some places like the 99 and Ground Round chains where they do have a bit of a family atmosphere but the bar sections are off away a bit from the family seating areas. Is a place being schizophrenic trying to cater to both?

It was mentioned they featured local bands. Maybe mostly yes, but the band I saw was from NYC. It was their first time playing Boston area...And it was said people stopped seeing bands there because there were a bunch of kids running around.

Profits don't mean anything if they're swallowed by losses! He doesn't know where his losses are coming from!

Once again, link to preview.

The “bars” in the 99 Restaurants I’ve been to are horrible. Bad copies of those in Chili’s or Applebee’s, and they don’t clean their beer taps. Nasty.

I haven’t had a problem with the 99s I go to, to be honest....btw some years ago there was a gangland hit at the 99 in Charlestown and some newspaper columnist (can’t remember who, Howie? P. Gelzinis?) wrote up a bit with the headline “Steak Tips To Die For”...
(Oh good heavens—it was the plagiarizer, Barnicle! Just did a search

>>Those who think red meat might be bad for you have a pretty good argument this morning in the form of four dead guys killed yesterday at the 99 Restaurant in Charlestown. It appears that the two late Luisis, Bobby, the father, and Roman, his son, along with their three pals, sure did love it because there was so much beef spread out in front of the five victims that their table-top resembled a cattle drive.

>>Law enforcement sources described both the victims and the suspects as local underworld associates with roots in the North End...Police said the table at the murder scene was crammed with food, including Luisi’s beloved steak tips.

Is that on older pic or a newer one? I can tell it’s the one in Fram.—note the WINGS2U phone number.

In the clip I linked to, that was how it looked when I went there last year. From what I can gather it’s now known a bit more officially as The Bone?

The very best eateries are always located right next to railroad tracks.
