Word For The Day, Wednesday, 8/31/11

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sequacious; adj.

following with smooth or logical regularity. 2. Archaic . following, imitating, or serving another person, especially unreasoningly <1. Conformist, following others in thought and behavior rather than leading. 2. Following a logically consistent direction, as a sequacious argument or line of reasoning. Sequacious is both lovelier and more descriptive than conformist, making it the perfect substitute, "The tattoo trade thrives on a sequacious youth trying to be iconoclastic." Don't forget that this word also refers to consistency in thought and behavior: "Trying to diet over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays doesn't strike me as completely sequacious."

Etymology: Today's word comes from Latin, as do so many English words. This one is based on the Latin sequax (sequac-s) "following, pursuing", the present participle of sequi "to follow". In Sanskrit, the ancient ancestor of Hindi and a language related to Latin and English, it became sak- "to follow" and sakis "friend". The original root also took on the suffix -ondo- (sekw-ondo-), becoming secundus "following, coming next, second" in Latin, whence English borrowed it for our word second.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

A+++ my brother and i broke from the sequacious Dem voting pattern of our upbringing. my father was blue collar union dem, dems were for the LITTLE GUY, republicans for the rich. My brother and i, sole offspring of my union dad, are antiunion republs.

As an attorney you know that the truth is a total defense against charges of slander.

That’s quite the fecund family you got there.

Thanks much. (Assuming that's a compliment.) :)

as a member of the electorate i also know that the palinbots are not garnering any new voters from the undecided by their cultish devotion to their perceived savior.
my gripes with Sarah are nonexistent. her followers from Tammy Bruce on down are extremely hard to stomach. How many people have posted THAT sentiment on FR? i’m seeing it more and more often. i anxiously await a FR poll to determine how many of the cult of personality voters there are.

prodigious reproducers, the progeny of Truth!

Thanks. I think they are starting to figure out a cause and effect relationship, a methodology which escapes democrats. My kids are all right-wing nuts, like their daddy.

the right wing SHOULD be fruitful and multiply, as the surefire way to outpace the aborting leftists.

Yes. We have discussed that Tammy Bruce is obsessive as are some others. It’s kind of unfair though to blame a candidate, or in this case a potential candidate, for their supporters.
It’s kind of like with Ron Paul. No one has been righter on stuff than he for years and that gets clearer every day, but he attracts some very young, enthusiastic, bat guano crazy supporters. He’s like a magnet for “crazy”.

And hey I do not rag on Perry supporters for being a sort of overnight generated invasion of the body snatchers like phenomena, one that has even infected my friends.

the most obnox trait of palinbots is to assume that those who don’t think she is the second coming are committed to and flogging for another candidate. my candidate is Marco Rubio and since he’s not in the race i am uncommitted. but were i to go on a sarah thread and explain why i think she has ZERO CHANCE of being elected i would be trashed as a mittbot, a perry supporter or relentlessly hounded by the question of WHO IS YOUR CANDIDATE, always looking for some nefarious motive behind criticism of the sainted one. i am telling you i have lots of conservative friends NONE OF THEM wants sarah palin. not a single one. and none of them is enamored of anyone else, they keep saying OMG who is going to be our nominee, who can BEAT OBAMA??? none of them think that sarah can. that’s why i don’t see her winning the nomination.

Does she have work to do? Yes.

If she so choses to do it.

I know otherwise bright intellegent people who think the Tina Fey parody was real.

She’ll have to demonstate why her 30 months as governor where more accomplished than her rivals 48 or 120 months.

It goes along with my extremely short hair/bitterness concurrence theory.

Plus owning one turns you into a total obnox. I am basing that solely on everyone I know who has one. If they have a computer, you won’t hear them mention it, unless it’s a Mac.

i know people like that also. and i think the damage done to her is insurmountable. my 20 yo son rolls his eyes if she is even mentioned as a serious candidate. the other misguided thing palinbots do, is assume that voters are going to dig down and RESEARCH the candidates and thus discover the truth about her instead of the MSM propagated lie. Ain’t gonna happen. Voters are lazy. They have their impression of her and they aren’t going to go looking behind that.

I just want something to do the job and I don’t want to pay an exorbitant fee for a name. It’s the Scottish in me.
