Word For The Day, Wednesday, 8/31/11

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sequacious; adj.

following with smooth or logical regularity. 2. Archaic . following, imitating, or serving another person, especially unreasoningly <1. Conformist, following others in thought and behavior rather than leading. 2. Following a logically consistent direction, as a sequacious argument or line of reasoning. Sequacious is both lovelier and more descriptive than conformist, making it the perfect substitute, "The tattoo trade thrives on a sequacious youth trying to be iconoclastic." Don't forget that this word also refers to consistency in thought and behavior: "Trying to diet over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays doesn't strike me as completely sequacious."

Etymology: Today's word comes from Latin, as do so many English words. This one is based on the Latin sequax (sequac-s) "following, pursuing", the present participle of sequi "to follow". In Sanskrit, the ancient ancestor of Hindi and a language related to Latin and English, it became sak- "to follow" and sakis "friend". The original root also took on the suffix -ondo- (sekw-ondo-), becoming secundus "following, coming next, second" in Latin, whence English borrowed it for our word second.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

It goes along with my extremely short hair/bitterness concurrence theory.

I concur. Washing out of an Ivy League school. Gravy Train of HP over. Remind you of anyone?

xsboy had three Android phones [verizon] in the past year, each one had some difficulty and was replaced no questions asked by verizon via fed ex, the following day. But this past time he said, hmmm.. mom has not had any problems with her iphone in the past year, i’m going to go with that instead. He preferred his Android apps, but was persuaded by my problem-free experience.

For a bitter, one-dimensional actress she's OK. This actress named Emma is about the same age and much more talented.

She was awesome in "The Help."

i’m just commenting on her haircut. i don’t even know this other Emma and don’t have any basis to opine on relative talent or their personal frames of mind.

I don’t care for young boy haircuts on girls or women. I don’t like girly hair on guys either.

I'll go one step better - yesterday a poster here insinuated he was going to go whine to Jim Robinson to get me zotted. My crime? A newbie who only posts on Sarah Palin articles and even has a screen name referencing her whined about Rick Perry and I asked if he/she obsessed much since he only posted on SP articles.

That made me a troll unworthy of FR even after 11 years of interactions here.

I truly hate this portion of the campaign

The funniest part is I don't care who I nominee is at this point - I would vote for SP, Perry, hell, I'd even vote for Ron Paul if he was our nominee - I don't care who it is - I just want bammy out!

Oh yes. It gets, intesne. Remember the night of the bug zapper where all the Rudyites got the zot? So far, this is tame compared to that.

There are exceptions to every rule, but who were you voting for when you had ultra short hair?

Yeah I think the guy yesterday was hoping Jim would do the same again..... very sad to want to zot long time freepers because you don’t agree or think you don’t agree at this point.

No one in my family chose McCain in the last primary. And we didn’t vote alike, just in our distrust of the nutjob.

if i was graduating law school i was a democrat. that has absolutely no bearing on the hairstyle. i’d have that same style today were i not too old for it! i thought geraldine ferraro looked damn good in it that style too. we all have our own biases i guess. i have often maintained that i think women well into middle-age look like they are trying too hard to hang onto youth when they have long hair. Personally i look better in shorter hair than in long. I haven’t had hair past my shoulders since 9th grade.

that’s one of the thing that flabbergasts me. the vitriol directed at those who are not worshipping at the altar of Palin by the sarahbots rivals that of that directed to Obama voters. and they expect to gain supporters for her that way?
