I always remember listening to this song with my daughter and her friend, they were about 12, and they couldn’t “get” it. They could not understand the sarcasm of the song. Even though I tried mightily to explain it to them.

I forget how old I was when I first heard it, and it did befuddle me a bit at first. But it was lost on them at that time.

I must discuss this with the kid again, as I think this is one of the most brilliant popular songs ever written. An excellent example of a subtle subject handled well. Even if it is lost on 12 year olds, but of course it isn’t written for them.

She has a beautiful voice. However, she makes her money as an entertainer.

If she sat down at a piano, dressed normally and played a ballad, you would get the full range. Instead we get a cross dressing/meat wearing madonna wannabe.

Shame. But thats showbiz,
