Side issue - what the heck is an “unmarked crosswalk”? If it isn’t marked, how would a driver know that it’s a crosswalk? Not excusing the driver here for striking a jogger, but I don’t see how she can be cited in this case.

According to Washington State Law any intersection of roads/streets is considered a crosswalk across all legs of the intersection regardless of whether or not they are marked (painted on the street) or not.

As shotgun mentioned they are all unmarked crosswalks. And in at least smaller cities and towns, they are pretty strictly enforced.

My dad was visiting me at WSU for the first time (in a rental) and he went through a crosswalk (marked) with someone who looked like they might step into it. As soon as I got the words out “Pop, people in a crosswalk, they tend to enforce that pretty strictly here” he got pulled over.

I think that if a woman says that it is hard to be a single mother than give the kids to the father immediately.

Sometimes the mother has the kids because the father is gone--off with another woman, moved away, abusing alcohol, unemployed, serving overseas, in jail, dead, sick, whatever--so giving them to him isn't an option.

I have never heard of a father saying it is tough to be a single father.

I have. I have friends who are single fathers and they say all the time that it's darn tough. Even when they have family in the area to help. It is tough. It's obviously tougher when you're working and struggling than when you're a rich person who can hire all the staff she needs and has a supportive ex-spouse, like Witherspoon.

It just gets to me.....just the words “single mother”.

What would you prefer that we call ourselves?

i'll say it. it's tough being a single father.
we're burdened with child support that mostly gets used to finance the lifestyle of the mother, not actually "support" the child, then we're left with significantly less money to spend on our children, so we look like the bad guy.
not to mention that we get significantly less time with our children.

She’s actually one of the few Hollywood actresses I can stand.

My favorite movie of her’s is “Election” with Matthew Broderick. Set in Hubby’s home town.

RUNNING across a crosswalk doesn't give even a 20mph car enough time to see and react. Reese should have been ticketed.

Yep, and it was unmarked - in other words, it was an intersection. Reese was running and didn't see the car, ran out into the street and got hit. The 84 year old woman slammed on the brakes, and before she could even exclaim that she never saw Reese coming (which she didn't), and before Reese even hit the ground (if she even fell), Reese had whipped out her cell phone and called - 911? nope; her doctor? nope; her lawyer - bingo.

Remember, this is LA - so the cop gives the driver a ticket and Reese gets to be the victim, thereby establishing pressure against the driver until a settlement can be arranged away from prying eyes, at which time the ticket will be dropped (and oh, by the way, if the driver was actually guilty of hitting someone, she wouldn't have merely received a ticket).

Cherry - she’s 35. She looks 18, as we’ve never seen an unretouched photo of her.

...an 84-year-old woman...

...who was driving 20 mph at the time...

No doubt it was a 55 mph zone.

And I'll bet she was driving a Buick.

Woody Allen in “Take the Money and Run” is so unathletic he gets run over by a broken down car being pushed by two guys.
