A billionaire West Virginia businessman is contributing $25-million to the Boy Scouts of Americas effort to build a national scout reserve in the state, Bloomberg reports.
The donation from Jim Justice will support development of the 10,600-acre Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Lewisburg, W.Va., planned site for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.

I went to Summit Bechtel last summer, just to check out the site. This is going to be phenomenal. Here is a video describing it.
Nice to hear that.
The Boy Scout camp near Bastrop, TX lost several acres in the fire a couple days ago. I think they managed to save the buildings but they had to take down original growth trees.
what a great story
I wish and hope Girl Scouts can use this or get a similar benefactor, our Councils are busy selling off our camps
I went to camp with the Scouts just one Summer. It was in Goshen, VA. Very nice facility on a large lake shore. I picked up my mile swim patch and did some serious canoeing. Knocked off the swimming merit badge, rifle and shotgun shooting merit badge and promotion to 2nd class that week. Very productive.
They tried to help me. I couldn’t get past Webelo/tenderfoot
Good for BSA!, but should have LEASED it to BSA, with perpetual renewals. Never know what BSA will do with it later. Surely there are provisional limits to the use or final disposition of the land.
Is this a response to the federal government refusing the BSA future use of federal land, such as for Jamboree? BSA had used a Virginia facility (Vint Hill?) for a really long time.
This is Great. BSA is truly one of the best non-profits in American history.
Hello WV GOP..here’s your Senate candidate...
This is Great. BSA is truly one of the best non-profits in American history.
The values and principles of the BSA are anathema to the godless progressive.
Why should we be surprised that the Federal Government rejects the BSA? It is in perfect keeping with everything
they do.
I used to give every year to the United Way. I specified that i wanted my donation directed to the BSA. I was allowed to do that. When the United Way threw the BSA under the bus, I quit giving to the United Way and have never since. That was more than 10 years ago.

You are so right. My boyhood Scout camp on Cape Cod, MA was sold off to developers years ago. (Camp Harrison H. Child, Buzzards Bay, MA)
I belive they were doing some stuff at Fort A.P. Hill.
That was the “Hill”. Thanks.
The reserve will be the PERMANENT site of the national Jamboree beginning in 2013. They’ve already collected ove $200 million to purchase it and get it ready for 2013. I am looking at being on staff for the 2013 Jamboree.
The United Way still supports the BSA. At least in our area.
Not anymore. Last year was the last year.
WV is turning RED..I think Manchin can be had if you drape Obama around his neck...same goes for Rahall...and since the GOP will ahve the majority in 2012, I think that Rockefeller might retire in 2014..in which case the seat should go to the GOP..I suspect that's what Caputo is waiting for..
My boyhood Scout camp (Chickagami, in Parkman, OH) was turned into a county park just a few years ago. Scouts can use it on the same basis as the general public, but there are no longer any summer camps. I used to spend at least a week each summer there, and my Troop made many weekend campouts there during the winter. I think it's a great loss, but apparently it was too expensive to maintain.
