*ahem* When I was 5 we had company and I was a VERY bad girl. I sang “Hell!, Hell! The gangs all here!” I was sent to my room.
I know of no reason that a civilian would salute the President or anything else. If the National Anthem is played then yes, cross your heart or in some cases salute. This is saluting the flag, not the song or the person. However military folks would need to salute the office of President just as you would if an officer passed by or you came in to report to one. You don’t salute the person (thank goodness), you salute the office or rank. We always had to salute when an officer was present but we saluted the insignia on his/her collar. Same with the president. Look at the button on his collar and salute the office of President.
Because he's a dumb @$$?
Due to a controversy over mismanagement at Arlington National Cemetery, he was issued a letter of reprimand on June 10, 2010.
There seems to be a DOD Reg covering this. However it does not cover civilians.
Ah! a true genius.
Good catch. I guess it’s a security thing. They wouldn’t want Obama entering through the audience, even if they are all politicians, military, sycophants, and toadies. So they rushed him in through the back.
Was your mouth washed out with soap? LOL!
No. But I learned not to sing. :-)
Right. Only military is covered by this. I was referring to it being proper to cross your heart when the flag is being raised, etc. for civilians. Undoubtedly not taught to a good number of the kids now days. Go to a sports event and when they raise the flag and play the National Anthem they stand there like a toad or laugh and play with their friends. My parents would have slapped me out of the seat if I had acted like that.
