I’m thinking about getting my daughter a Lady Smith for Hanukkah this year.

My son is against it (”just get her a regular, good gun”) but he doesn’t understand that our smaller hands really do make it more difficult to handle a handgun. In addition, our hands aren’t as strong as the average man’s.

There was an article in Backwoods Home Magazine with some suggestions about finding the right gun to fit smaller hands, including some “regular guns” that just happen to fit well: http://backwoodshome.com/articles2/ayoob131.html

A lot of guys don't get that. They also often don't get that a too-large caliber can actually injure people with smaller hands and arms. But every hand is different. Has your daughter tried the Lady Smith?

Good for you! Whatever she's comfortable shooting will be great for her.

And you get a "Good Mama" sticker!

Your son is right, BTW, my daugther also has small hands...

She initially didn’t like the Glock grip (very few people do at first)

After she went to the range, used proper technique and shot it...she loves it...

The grip isn’t a problem. As a 1911 variant shooter (I have six). I recommended she buy the Glock for it’s simplicity, reliability and accuracy.

There are better guns for certain tactical situations but they require a lot of training and assume that you are in a ready leaning forward position.

For everyday carry for someone that doesn’t train regularly and wants an auto, I would only go with the Glock.
