The man has pretty much withdrawn from worldliness and is attempting to do much good in the Lord's name. Given the apparent circumstance of weakness regarding a behavior that is abominable in His eyes, what else could he possibly have done?

Recall that you are a sinner and fall short of the glory of God as has every single human being since Adam, outside of Jesus Christ himself. The sins of some are greater in the eyes of man than others, and some sin is abomination, but break God's law in any manner and break it all. None are worthy, all require forgiveness.

Take care not to cast a stumbling block before your brother, here. Revulsion over the sin extending into the rejection of a repentant sinner is clearly wrong.

There is literally an eternity of difference between a repentant sinner (who may continue to struggle but always admits his sinful behavior) and someone who attempts to justify a behavior which God has condemned.
