PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- This is a child abuse case that a police department says is the worst it has ever seen.
The reports include young children locked up, covered in blisters and rashes and filth. Click here to find out more!
The story comes from Prestonsburg, Ky., where the good news is five kids are on the road to recovery.
Their maternal grandmother says just getting the little ones treated and cleaned up and in a healthy environment is working wonders. Police say if being smothered in filth wasn't bad enough, pain pills were lying around the apartment like candy.
Officer Zak Clark says he went to Shawn and Amber Cordle's Prestonsburg apartment on Sept. 2 after the 39-year-old father called for an ambulance.
He was holding a child outside with blisters on its mouth and hands," Clark said. "Inside there was human and animal feces everywhere -- an empty crib full of feces. It's the worst thing I've seen in a long time.
Clark says besides extreme neglect and filth, the Cordle's five children --- ranging in ages from 17 months to 7 years old -- were also surrounded by cats and rotten food. Prescription painkillers also were lying around just about everywhere.
"You mean like OxyContin?" WSAZ.com's Randy Yohe asked Clark.
"There was liquid hydrocodone and other pills strewn all over, Clark said.
Clark says when he went upstairs, he found two special needs children locked up in horrific conditions.
There were two special need kids in the same bed," he said. "They were covered in human and animal feces. The parents said they did that so the children could not escape.
The five children were taken to Highlawn Regional Medical Center.

"A manager" must have been on drugs, too. Wouldn't anyone passing by notice the smell?
“Their maternal grandmother says just getting the little ones treated and cleaned up and in a healthy environment is working wonders.”
Um, where was this woman before now?
Hey Randy Yohe you sensationalist, biased SOB, in case you haven’t noticed Perdue Pharmaceutical changed the formula for OxyContin, and they do the abusers no good any longer. Jackwagons like you with your agenda make it increasingly difficult for those of us who really need the medication to obtain it legally, and lead to things like that joke of a lawsuit against Perdue that caused them to pull their patents, and completely remove generic versions of the meds from the market. Yes there used to be a problem with people having their pills stolen, or selling them and people “misusing” the drug, but suing the pharmaceutical company is the equivalent of suing gun manufacturers for the acts of criminals.
Since Perdue changed their manufacturing process to the tune of millions of dollars passed on to the consumers of the drug, guess what? The little druggie idiots moved back to or on to (depending on perspective) Oxycodone (Percoset, Percodan, etc)in the form they were actually using more of the time anyway.
Just goes to prove the media’s bias or agenda doesn’t require a political theme to come shining through.
My apologies Morgana, my rant was definitely NOT directed at you. I don’t watch WSAZ much because aside from Randy, I also can’t take Tony Gerbilier! LOL!
That comes from a rumor I heard a few years back. Being in the bar business in the Tri-State, you hear things. I’ve seen a home made video of Billy Ray Cyrus, that would shock a lot of people and not in a good way.
I just had it brought to my attention, in a Freepmail, that Mr. Cavalier is a regular Church goer, and if he really is a devout Christian, then I apologize for all the gerbil jokes over the years. I hope for his sake he is.
Very true, but like I said I hope for his sake he has found Christ. Also I never saw any “proof” (thank God), just heard rumors, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
That story broke on WCHS TV8. I remember it. Don’t know how he lived it down.
To this day all one has to do is google “Tony Cavalier” and “Gerbil” they come up.
