The heart-warming story of a wayward emperor penguin that was rescued in New Zealand may not have a happy ending.

Scientists who released the penguin back into the ocean say the signal from a tracking device has stopped and they fear the bird has been eaten.

But they still are holding out hope that the device just fell off the penguin who has been dubbed "Happy Feet."

I feel sorry for the penguin.

Just another example of where the road paved with good intentions lead.

I don’t know what they were thinking when they released the poor penguin all by itself in the middle of nowhere.

If they had any sense, they would have put it into a nice zoo with a bunch of other penguins to live a long, happy life.

It was a happy ending for the varmint that ate him.

The least they could have done was release him near a bunch of penguins

They could have put him amongst a Penguin population.

What a stupid thing to do....just shove him in the water and expect him to find his way. He was lost in the first place.

Bottom line....The whole damn release was totally experimental...because it makes no sense.

“release him near a bunch of penguins”

Maybe the scientists felt the polar bears added diversity to his life?

;)

Too bad one of the eco-freaks wasn’t there to fight the nearly extinct polar bear for the Happy (Meal) Feet.

Reminds me of an incident 15 hrs ago when the well intentioned folks in Hutchinson KS relocated Prairie Dogs from a field slated for a ball diamond. The poor dogs were eaten by the badgers at their new home LOL !
