Hal Lindsey has a long history of making false predictions regarding biblical prophecy, which anyone can discover by Googling him. One site is:

Here's another:

Here's an interesting thread discussing Lindsey:

There are others but the above will get you started.

What is even more troubling about Lindsey is the fact that he has been divorced three times and is currently on his 4th wife. This is an abysmal and inexcusable "track record" for someone who continues to be respected and revered as a prophecy teacher.

Basically what happened is The Late Great Planet Earth was picked up as the book de jour by Evangelicals in the early 1970's at the height of the "Jesus Movement," making Lindsey a rich man. Within a couple of years he left his wife for his new "soul mate" (the 2nd of 4 thus far) and continued to write prophecy books that were equally superficial to growing - and IMHO undeserved - acclaim in the Christian world.

Like everyone else I read the book and was impressed with what it said about prophetic events soon to unfold. I gradually realized, however, that even though some came to Faith as a result of reading the book, much of what he predicted did not come true and was based on his erroneous interpretations of biblical prophecy.
