The first change from the combined Cumulus and Citadel looks to be taking place Monday in Washington, DC. Both morning co-host Mike O’Meara and afternoon host Cerphe Colwell, at Classic Rock “105.9 The Edge” WVRX have posted on Facebook that they and the rest of the staff have been let go and that the station will be flipping on Monday.
Most speculation revolves around the station flipping to a simulcast of sister News/Talk 630 WMAL. While that makes the most sense, nothing has been confirmed so far.
What a shame. The weekend music was fantastic.
When I'm driving, I can't listen to Internet radio. That's when I do most of my listening to talk radio.
Fine w/ me - classic rock is pretty much the same 30 or 40 songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... with the Doobie Brothers’ “China Grove” at least once and hour.

Chris Plante is great and one of the best. He actually listens to his callers and lets them speak. Unlike Fawn Vannity and Limbo he gives the impression that he cares about what the caller is saying. I think he might be the best.
I suppose that that is because there's not a huge number of hit songs to choose from. It's not as though one were selecting from the late 50s and all through the 60s.

He always sounds like he’s too excited and rushes his words. Plus there’s always a slight saliva suck in his voice during pauses.
He needs a voice coach.
Internet, Sirius/XM, and podcasts on cell phones plugged into the car’s MP3 systems killed the radio star.
I no longer listen to radio music since I downloaded (free) Pandora.

Chris Plante is the only broadcast guy I listen to regularly. Beck is opposite him and loses the comparison, Rush is usually boring, Hannity is a blow dried airhead, Levin is fingernails on the chalkboard to me.

Believe it or not, I find myself listening to Lou Dobbs more and more.
Or I just plug in Pandora to the MP3 off the cell phone and tune out the world.

No word on what will happen to 105.9 The Edge (Classic Rock).
We get Rush on FM here as well. We have an excellent lineup with Quinn & Rose, Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage and Levin. I’m praying they don’t change it anytime soon!
I love Howie Carr, but I have to listen via podcast. I can’t download an entire show - just segments. What’s up with that? I wish they’d post the entire show.

Indeed and it is now on the WMAL site. (Maybe they’d put 105.9’s rock format on HD radio or online, I don’t know)

It’s been quite a weekend at WMAL.
On Friday the station received new owners, and at noon Monday, after 83 years at 630 on your AM dial, WMAL will make its debut on FM radio at 105.9.
WMAL’s new signal addition is the first action taken by the station’s new corporate parent, Cumulus Media, since a purchase of the previous owner, Citadel Broadcasting Corporation, was closed Friday.
WMAL’s arrival at 105.9 on the FM band will allow more listeners than ever to enjoy The Morning Majority, Chris Plante, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin, but the good news is that if AM 630 works for you, WMAL will continue to be there as well!

WASHINGTON, DC, September 19 — In an effort to compete directly with nation’s highest-grossing radio station, Cumulus media today at noon begins simulcasting news and talk programming from 630 AM WMAL on 105.9 FM WVRX — providing FM listeners in the DC area with access to WMAL’s 85 years of award-winning programming and community service.
“By expanding our successful brand to the FM dial, we will be a viable listening and advertising option for many more people in the Washington, DC, area,” said WMAL President/General Manager Jeff Boden. “There are many potential listeners who never listen on AM, and we are now making programs of wide interest available to the largest possible audience.”
Programming simulcast as of noon today on AM and FM includes The Chris Plante Show, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and “Morning Majority” (hosted by former Fox News anchor Brian Wilson, “The Daily Caller’s” Mary Katharine Ham and WMAL veteran Bryan Nehman).
This simulcast uniquely positions WMAL/WVRX to compete head-to-head with WTOP, whose $57 million in annual ad sales make it the highest-grossing station in the nation. While WTOP has a repetitive news-wheel format, WMAL/WVRX programming is interactive through a mix of news reports and call-in shows that allow for engagement with listeners.
“When we grew to 570 stations nationwide last week after closing the Citadel deal, I told my team to be creative at using innovative ways for the newly acquired stations to bolster our community involvement, and that’s what our Washington, DC, team has done so elegantly here,” said Lew Dickey, CEO of Cumulus.
On Friday, following approval from the Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission, Cumulus completed a $2.2 billion purchase of Citadel Broadcasting and is now the nation’s largest pure-play radio owner with 570 stations reaching 93% of Americans each week.
Most of the top talk hosts nationwide (commercial radio) are conservative. The few liberals (Colmes, Steph Miller, Ed S.) pale in comparison. Conservative talk makes MONEY.
