Back from the field for a few days.
You're not going to believe this: I got ANOTHER mountain lion sighting on September 29 in the Bill Williams NWR river canyon. I (driving) and three of my co-workers saw a LARGE mountain lion bound across the dirt road only about 40 yards in front of us at dawn as we were heading to work. This part of the refuge is desert, but in only about 10 seconds, it darted 100 yards into the riparian jungle of the river system and disappeared into all the mesquite, willow, cottonwood, and salt cedar. It was a FANTASTIC up-close sighting!
Then later that day, as we were hiking back to the truck we saw a badger run along the sand track and finally disappear into the jungle too.
Two great mammal sightings in one day!
Most welcome on the pings, Fly.
I really don’t know how you’re able to come across the mountain lions you’ve been fortunate enough to have sighted, just lucky I guess. :-)
I’ve hunted, fished and camped the better part of my live and have never spotted one in the wild that I could confirm. There were a couple of times I got a glimpse of what might have been a lion but it was just a fleeting glance at fairly long range and neither could be close to being sure it was in fact a lion.
Spotting a badger is also a very rare thing and I had no idea they were in that part of AZ.
FReepmail coming.
