A charming and sweet story, really -- except for the fact that it is not true. According to ABC News, Perry signed the vaccine executive order before he met the young woman, not after, as he claims. The woman did, according to reports, lobby in favor of upholding the executive order after it had been signed (which the legislature eventually overturned), but she did not play a role in Perry's original signing of it.
Perry was truthful about one thing, though. He was lobbied to sign his executive order. But this lobbying appears to have come from Merck & Co., the manufacturer of Gardasil, not a heart-wrenching victim of cervical cancer.

In 2006, Sarah Palin was elected governor of the great state of Alaska. In June of 2007, Alaska accepted federal funding to boost access to Gardasil, the HPV vaccine.
( Juneau, Alaska) ─ The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced today that an increase in federal funding will make it possible for all Alaska girls ages 9 through 18 to receive Gardasil ®, the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, at no cost.
At no direct cost, perhaps. But being federally funded, it had a cost. Millions of Americans outside Alaska bore that cost, involuntarily.
When did Perry claim that he did meet her before signing? All I’ve ever heard him say in detail was that it was during the debate to overturn it.
Oh don’t try to confuse them with facts. They’ll lose their train of thought.
Doctors also fall prey to medical lobbying. The drug company convinces them that product x is the cure and many are swayed.
I just wish Perry would come out and tell the truth. If he honestly thought he was helping to prevent cancer say so. If the lobbying was about the drug’s promise, say so. And if he believed parents understood the opt out, just say so.
He also needs to fire his staff and hire someone who will tell him like it is. His reluctance to explain his positions will prove fatal otherwise.
Actually, the only one lying here is the author of this article. Perry never "claimed" to be lobbied by the woman before he signed the order. They were discussing who lobbied him, and he gave an example of a real person who lobbied him, to counter the charge that the only one who supported this was the drug company.
The question WAS about lobbying, and Perry corrected the false premise of the question, that nobody cared about the issue. He told the truth, unlike this article.
I like Perry and believe he will win it all.

Gardasil, the HPV vaccine, is currently on the market for $120 per single dose. Three doses are required over a 6-month period, making the total cost for the HPV vaccine $360. On top of that, some doctors are charging office visit fees when the vaccine is given. If I had young girls, I would vaccinate them at an early enough age before there was any chance they would be exposed to the HPV virus. There is evidence that HPV can be transmitted by unclean hands and objects contaminated with the virus. I would not want to risk that possibility with my daughter’s future. And there is no way to determine what the HPV status of the men they will marry later in their life.
So, if I lived in a state that was proposing state-funded inoculations, I admit that it would be attractive, given the cost I would be paying to have it done privately. Also, if population-wide inoculations to eradicate HPV all together were done, that would be a better thing. It’s too bad that the vaccine costs so much. So, for those like me who want to keep our daughters safe, we’ll pay the costs ourselves. And, I would definitely have my daughter inoculated to protect her from her husband before having sex with him. For others, more hand washing, no premarital sex and not trying on underwear at the J.C. Pennies until you can afford the vaccine would be a good route to go.

Your opinion of his answer is an opinion, not a fact, and doesn’t refute the clear fact that it is a LIE to say he claimed he spoke with the woman before he signed the EO.
You could, as ABC likes to do, say “he failed to say that he spoke to her AFTER the EO”. Or you could say neutrally “He never said he spoke to her before the EO”. But you can’t say “He said he spoke to her before he signed the EO”. Because he didn’t — it is a lie.
I like Perry, and have doubts that he will win at all. If he does, fine. If he doesn’t, hopefully we’ll get some other conservative who can rise to the occasion.
One thing Perry proved is that the door was open to this race a LONG time ago, and people who wanted to lead conservatives and save us from Romney and Obama should have been entering that door a long time ago. There’s still time, but there’s only one candidate I can think of who could enter the race now and not get the same treatment Perry received.
Perry’s a lier. He intended the story about the girl to be confused with the signing. He also lied about the money Merck paid him. Claims it was 5000. In fact Merck paid him more than 100,000 by laundering it through the Republican Governors Association.
Could he possibly have heard of this woman before he met her in person? Such things do happen once in a while.

Good comment. The permission to fornicate hysteria is a pre-scientific mentality. There is enough other nasty bugs one can get from sexual activity after the Gardasil vaccine has protected us from HPV. It would be nice if there were vaccines to protect us from all of them.
Louis Pasteur, who developed vaccines against rabies and anthrax and the process of pasteurization, met religious opposition when his discoveries destroyed the doctrine of spontaneous generation. Fortunately, the scientific method has rid mankind of cultural ideas inconsistent with how God’s creation really works. I’m for science.
