In honor of Charlton Heston's birth, October 4, 1923, TCM is running a selection of his films, all day today. Just discovered this now; many films have already aired but the remainder of the schedule today includes:
5:15PM EST - "55 Days At Peking" (1963)
8:00PM EST - "Knock on Any Door" (1949)
10:00PM EST - "In a Lonely Place (1950)
From the biography on TCM's site:
Charlton Heston's career as a commanding male lead has provided a one-person Hollywood trek through the pages of world history and a forceful, conservative vision of a world in which America always wins.

No Omega Man? I never get tired of seeing Mr. Heston machine-gun Keith Olbermann (ably played by Anthony Zerbe) and the rest of the Manson Family.

I’ve been wanting to see “Secret of the Incas” — Indiana Jones before Indiana Jones.

He rocked the Indiana Jones look in Greatest Show On Earth. Well, no bullwhip or gas mask bag, but the rest was dead on.

Mr. Heston was scheduled to make a tour of Shiloh NMP and narrate a history of that battlefield, much on horseback. My horse, Nathan, had been chosen for the deed since he was well broke and a beautiful Arabian. Unfortunately, Heston’s health took a turn for the worse and the event never happened. I sure wish I’d had the chance to let him on Nathan. Sadly, both Nathan and Mr. Heston have gone on to greener pastures.

I always enjoyed how when mutants captured him he said something like, “So, you gentlemen are with the Internal Revenue Service?”
