CONGRESS! Pass the Tax on Millionaires NOW (vanity)
Patriotic Millionaires ^ | October 5, 2011 | Lancey Howard

Posted on 10/04/2011 11:46:55 PM PDT by Lancey Howard

I am posting this vanity at Free Republic to urge all freepers to contact their Senators and Representatives and urge them to pass a "millionaires tax" immediately. The bill must specify BY NAME the many millionaires who have ASKED that their taxes be raised. There are reportedly over 200 members of the group Patriotic Millionaires who have signed a petition urging Congress and President Ubama to raise their taxes.

So, why wait? When will a Congressman with some spine finally stand up and introduce the legislation these millionaires demand? As far as I can tell, it's a can't-lose proposition. These 200+ millionaires can pay more taxes - - just like they asked for - - and big government can have more money to flush down the toilet, hopefully in place of us normal people's tax dollars.

Here is a recent petition with well over 100 of the millionaires' names on it. I'm sure the other "patriotic millionaires" whose names do not appear on this petition will step forward and make sure Congress knows their names, too.

Go for it, Congress! Don't delay!

Thank you.

Wouldn’t that be a bill of attainder?

I thought of that, but plenty of bills name specific companies all the time, usually buried deep in the legal jargon. I dunno - - maybe Congress could pass a general "millionaires tax" and exempt everybody EXCEPT the 200+ named "patriotic (idiotic) millionaires".

There's gotta be somebody who can figure out a way to do it.
Anyway, who would argue?

I would support this but like you said, only for the 200 who signed this petition and let’s add Michael Moore and Matt Damons name to it as well who also said they want their taxes raised. And just to make sure they don’t ask again, let’s make their tax rate 99%.

This is about the DUMBEST idea I’ve ever seen on FR.

First, Congress passing a tax on ALL “millionaires” because a couple of hundred have “rich mans guilt” is NOT good policy, nor is it good economics. Those guys signing the petition should take out their own checkbooks and write a check to the Treasury THEMSELVES, VOLUNTARILY, until the weight of their wealth is alleviated by their OWN generosity. But these petitioners don’t want to just open their OWN pockets out of generosity — they want to obligate ALL the other millionaires (their COMPETITION) to have to do the same. That’s not charity, it’s not patriotism. It’s the rabbit leading Alice further down the Rabbit Hole.

Second, when these millionaires ARE taxed MORE, what EXPENSES do you suppose they will cut first? May I suggest, they won’t go on that Disney trip, or visit the resort at the coast. Sales tax revenue to the State LOST — and THOSE businesses LOSE that profit.

They don’t buy that New Car. No new $ in the auto industry, to the car salesman or dealership, to corporate, to the labor that builds cars...

What about this Millionaire’s “Small Business” where he has 10 employees? Higher taxes — AND the higher ObamaCare costs, take multiple tens- of thousands of dollars out of his profits. And, considering the drop in his sales and the increase in materials prices for his work — he faces the reality that, even reducing his OWN take home pay for the year by 25-33%, he’s going to have to lay off two of his workers.

So — NO ONE pays “MORE” taxes under this “plan.” The “Millionaires are punished, they “create” and “produce” less, thus having to cut workforce, leading to a rise in unemployment, keeping those working with static salaries and owners with LOWER profits and take home pay. The result? LESS STATE AND FEDERAL REVENUE from a SMALLER TAX BASE that cannot afford products carrying higher prices due to the inflation that follows when the Gov’t prints more paper money to try and pay off the debt the falling revenues and (MOSTLY)wasteful gov’t spending have run up....

Tax MORE?! On Millionaires or anyone else — it’s just insane. Especially NOW.

Douglas I'm feeling lucky Edwards deserves a spot on the list.

Don’t forget to re-read the post you were replying to, because the whole ‘specifically tax only those who demanded higher taxes’ was sort of the point.

The GE CEO loon and Buffet should immediately go into the 99.9% bracket since they’re lusting so much for taxes.

Of course, all these millionaire idiots missed the point entirely. If ALL millionaires were taxed at a higher rate, we would still be spending more than 8 percent of the GDP in borrowed money. And as soon as interest rates start to rise, that number goes up very quickly.

But that's not the plan. Oh, no.. That’d be far more responsible than what the actual plan is.. It's raise the taxes on the rich and SPEND it, on extensions and new programs, so we continue to spend 12.5% of the GDP in borrowed money.

And all in all, with the repeated running of the printing press, all of those millionaires have already been taxed at a huge rate as inflation saps at their wealth and devaluation of property and investments has reduced their wealth.

Personally, I'd like to see every one of those liberal idiots put on the hook for paying the full out of state tuition for every illegal they want put through college on the public’s dime. You want to push your liberal agenda? Nothing says you can't buck up and just do it yourself. Want your union goon teachers to have more money? Get out the checkbook and start doing it.

Bad idea... bill of attainder.

What you can get Congress to do however, is to setup a fund in the Treasury department where these Patriotic Millionaires can send their checks.

Why bother with Congress?

The “Patriotic Millionaires” could send me money and I will pass it on to the US government for a relatively small fee.

I’d propose a 268% income tax for those patriots.

For every dollar earned $2.68 is owed in taxes.

It’s just their fair share. Think of the children!

A bill of attainder is an act of a legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without benefit of a judicial trial.

This would not be a bill of attainder, no crime no punishment only special tax rate done all the time.

That's a good idea. Make a very public spectacle of the legislation and be sure to send plenty of camera crews to film Ubama's signing ceremony. I would add, "...to shame the Patriotic Millionaires" into writing big checks immediately", but those selfish imbeciles have no shame.

By the way, if you check out the peition at the link you will notice that some of the “patriotic millionaire” cowards didn’t have the guts to sign their full names, only their initials. Hmmm.... And others put down a name with no city or location. Hmmm... again.

OH! And did I mention that passing a tax or law on specific individuals is blatantly UNCONSTITUTIONAL. It’s that whole “Bill of Attainder” thing. Yeah. Sorry I left that out — it was late, I was tired.
