I’ve got a Gibson SG, Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Telecaster. I’m going to go to the Tele for home defense. The bolt on neck of the Tele is more apt to stay in place after your initial whack to the intruder thus offering you additional opportunities to inflict more damage. The set neck Les Paul would more than likely not offer you a second chance as the body of the guitar would more than likely separate from the neck. My $.02

I've got two Gibson Les Pauls, an Epi 335, a Fender Strat and a Fender Tele and while reading this story at the source, the first thing that entered my mind would be what guitar I'd choose to beat someone senseless. The Telecaster instantly came to mind for the very reasons you mentioned.
Plus, after defending myself, the Tele would likely still be in tune.
I’ve got 3 Teles, 1 LP jr, a jazzmaster (all of which I made myself) and a Charvel with a reverse pointy headstock.
The Charvel can probably carve a rare piece of prime rib. I’m grabbing that.
On that note, I bet a Jackson Soloist would probably work REALLY well for home defense, given that it’s a neck-through-body design.
