SARAH PALIN'S "EARTHQUAKE"

Sarah Palin’s “Earthquake”
© 2011 by Anthony James

A little less than three years ago American conservatives received a devastating gut blow when Barack Obama was elected president. Although the mainstream media had not done any of their usual in-depth vetting of this largely unknown candidate, there were nonetheless millions of Americans who had availed themselves of the information digging properties on the Internet, who knew very well who this man was, who his radical past associations were, and who knew without being told what he meant when he said, “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America!”

A few scant weeks earlier that same core group of American conservatives had been given reason for joyous exultation and celebration. Taking the stage at the RNC convention was an amazing conservative superstar unlike anything seen before or since. When Sarah Palin, Republican Governor of Alaska and John McCain’s selection for vice president in 2008 strode to the microphone and delivered that amazing acceptance speech, I felt like a gradeschool child watching fireworks on the Fourth of July. I was out of my mind with joy.

In the nearly three years since Obama’s victory, American conservatives have remained sane largely by keeping our focus on that bit of light at the end of the tunnel. That bit of light is also the most brightly shining superstar in all of American politics. We were able to bide our time and suffer the horrific indignities of the Obama administration by clinging to the hope, the desperate belief, that come 2012 we would have a chance to watch Governor Sarah Palin do for America what she had done for Alaska as president of a Nation once again allowed the opportunity to draw itself up to its full height.

On the evening of Thursday, October 6, tens of millions of conservatives across America once again had the wind kicked out of them as Sarah Palin on the Mark Levin radio show announced that she would not be running for president in 2012. The sense of abject hopelessness and despair was palpable and numbing. Year after year of sincere prayer, desperate wishes, and hopeful optimism as expressed by tens of millions of Americans throughout the heartland, all were snuffed in that instant.

Those among the deeply invested who wanted so badly for Sarah to run were not mindless followers or deluded Kool-Aid drinkers. They were people like yours truly who were thoroughly conversant with the amazing record of successes Sarah had amassed as Mayor of Wasilla and then as Governor. We could recite by heart her specific and unique qualifications that marked her as the perfect person for the job, and fully waist, head and shoulders above anyone else in the field.

We also knew that of all the candidates who might win in 2012 for the Republican ticket, only Sarah had a well known history of hunting down those of her predecessors who had run afoul of the law and having them fitted for state-issued jumpsuits. Nothing less would have been appropriate in Alaska under Governor Palin, and nothing less will be remotely acceptable now for America.

FreeRepublic.com is America’s leading site for conservative activism on the World Wide Web, and has been for well over a decade. Despite not really having the heart to engage in any political discussions given the recent paralysis which has consumed me since last Thursday, I logged onto FreeRepublic today and was given my life back. A FReeper (as the inhabitants of FeeRepublic are often referred to) known as “upsdriver” had received permission from the site’s owner and founder, Jim Robinson, to start a thread called “Sarah Palin’s Earthquake.”

Apparently Sarah had been asked in one of the recent interviews what it would take to get her to change her mind. I’m assuming here that she replied that, “…it would take an earthquake.” This is how the idea was born that those who, like me, have spent the last few days stumbling around in the blind funk might find a way to channel and even make extremely productive use of this terrible sense of loss and emptiness by doing something positive to change it. When you really look at it, isn’t this what America has always been all about? Taking having been dealt a lousy hand, and with effort and innovation, turning it into something worth leaving to your children?

If you are among the millions who who know that there is nobody who will come close to generating the enthusiasm, filling the stadiums, or bringing out the voters in 2012 like Sarah Palin will, this movement is for you. If you are among the millions who know that there is no other candidate with a proven track record and decades of experience doing exactly those things that most need to be done to save this nation as it trembles on the brink of Third World mediocrity, it’s time for you to act.

We will be Sarah Palin’s “Earthquake.” There is even a Facebook group started called Sarah Palin’s Earthquake. If you’re on Facebook go and sign up. Either way, get a postcard… or better still, get 50 postcards. Fill them out with this phrase:

“WE ARE THE EARTHQUAKE!”

Mail them to:

The Office of Sarah Palin
P.O. Box 871235
Wasilla, AK 99687

Let’s make absolutely certain that, at the end of the day, if Sarah doesn’t end up running for president in 2012, at the very least it will not be because she did not know how many of us would dearly love to see her and her amazing American family in our White House.

It remains impossible for me to reconcile how someone could be so sincere in their frequent praise of our troops and their willingness to leave even their lives on the battlefield in answer to the call of their country, and then for that same person to turn her back and walk away as her country cries out in its most desperate hour of life and death need. Quite frankly, that’s not the Sarah Palin I know and love.

Let’s make sure she knows it, too.

“Buck up or stay in the truck!”

“If you can’t ride two horses at once you probably shouldn’t join the circus.”

“Don’t retreat… RELOAD!!!”

I’m already there. I joined the “Earthquake” last night when there were less than 300 members. Today, it’s nearly topped 4,000, and will probably eclipse 5,000 before midnight.

That’s just 24 hours, and all of those people are hurriedly mailing postcards and letters to Wasilla, beseeching Governor Palin to answer the call to duty.

The postman already picked up my letter. I intend to send more. I want Sarah to feel the ground shaking under her boots.

I understand completely why Sarah would pass up the opportunity to run for President. Her family has had to weather abuse like no other politician in recent memory. Even the frap that Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush endured was mostly aimed at them, NOT their children. I certainly wouldn't blame her children for being reluctant to have more heaped on them for another full year, not to mention the time she'd spend in the Presidency.

She's not 'walking away' from the public square; she will continue to voice her opinion, and campaign for conservative candidates to Congress. I'm sure she'll also lend her voice, if requested, to the eventual GOP nominee.

We have no right to demand of anyone that they run for any office. It is a huge job, and the person seeking needs to be sure it is the right decision for them, and that their families are behind them, 100%. She is still very young, and God willing, will have plenty of time in the future to run for President, if she so desires.

I thought that was her "vetting". If not, where's the vetting?

I certainly wouldn't blame her children for being reluctant to have more heaped on them

Curse those millions of dollars! They hurt the kids!

It’s kind of like when your girlfriend decides that she’d rather not marry you, at least right now. Some people can handle that. Others do this.

Leave her be. She’s earned the right to make her own decisions without being pestered about it.

God bless the Palin family and God Bless the United States of America.

No shaking here.

God is responsible for all authorities in power, even the heathen ones he uses as insrtuments to discipline His people.

Perhaps God told her in prayer not to run, as He has other plans for what used to be a great and Godly nation.

The flip side of that is the fact that God’s word calls for women to submit to man’s authority in marriage and church.

Perhaps it was her husband’s decision and God will bless her obedience.

... Leave her be. ...

Do I remember you ever posting pro-Palin on any Palin threads?

No I don't believe I ever did. Why the sudden change of concern?

Using the term "concern" advisedly.

I have posted on several Palin threads. I never posted against her personally but I did poke the needle at some of her more obnoxious fans. I cannot comment as to your memory. Sarah made her decision. I want a President that wants the job, not one that has to be cajoled into running.

She’s a great woman, a heckuva politican and a leader of a movement (tea party) that has altered the political landscape in this nation.

She’s earned the right to make her own decisions.

Well, Jim's allowed to express his opinions here, just like any other Freeper. I'll make my own choices, as my conscience directs.

Yes the “leave her be” crowd is the same as the “I don’t want MY wonderful candidate to have to run against her, but she would be a great VP for MY wonderful candidate” crowd. Everyone has stated they don’t want the media or the establishment picking the next president, but by allowing the media and the establishment to decide who will run accomplishes the same objective. I can’t believe the number of people outside of the FR crowd asking me why the Republicans can’t put up good candidates. Just because someone may be better than Obama and may beat Obama, doesn’t mean they will be a good president. Things are heating up and it is my guess that it isn’t going to be pretty.

No matter how much money her Mom makes, I'm sure it didn't help Willow feel any better when David Letterman joked about one of the Yankees baseball players having his way with her during a game. Most young ladies don't care for that kind of talk about themselves, and having it be NATIONWIDE is even worse.

That’s magnanimous of you. I copied you since you pinged him, presumably to get him to change his mind, not to “make your own choices”.

Oddly enough, I might actually ‘prefer’ a President who does NOT want the job all that much! It would be a welcome sign of sanity. Ones that truly crave it (ex: Clinton) exemplify disturbing personality traits that worry the hell out of me.

To: All

I posted the following on a different Palin thread and I’m re-posting it here. It is not directed at anyone personally, just my take on the entire Palin issue.

Warning - long (re)post:

If anyone feels hurt or disappointed that Palin chose not to run for POTUS, they have only themselves to blame.

As for quitting the Governorship, if people don’t understand why she resigned, then they are either being purposely obtuse or they don’t understand why she resigned.

The people feeling “Betrayed” have only themselves to blame, as some put Palin up on a pedestal and some are now acting like a High School kid who just got turned down for a date by the girl he’s had a crush on for a few years.

The MSM has put Palin thru hell for 3 years and she never whined about it like Obama did and he still does, even though they toss him softballs while the MSM has thrown 99 MPH fastballs at Palin’s head every day for the past 3 years and continue to do so and are still dumpster diving in Wasilla, looking for anything to pin on her.

When they couldn’t find anything, they just made things up, like the “Africa is a Country” lie, had 10 people vett her first book, filed an FOIA to dig thru her 24,000 emails she sent/received as Governor and found nothing, yet they still continue with the attacks.

Most people are intellectually lazy and don’t do any research. They just vote for the candidate the MSM wants them to.

That’s how a RINO like McCain became the GOP nominee.

Did he excite anyone here?

No.

But when he chose Palin as his running mate, interest peaked in electing McCain because of Palin among those that follow the political process.

After Palin gave her acceptance speech, I predicted on this forum that the MSM is going to attack her with a frenzy unlike we’ve ever seen.

I don’t know how to find the post. Perhaps someone more familiar with how this forum works can find the post, but I said they would do to Palin what they did to GWB, but in a compressed time frame of 3 months and that they would ruin her, in which they succeeded.

Within a month, many voters believed that Palin said “She could see Russia from her house” and that she hunted wolves/deer/bunny rabbits from a helicopter, that her Son wasn’t hers, that her eldest Son joined the military to avoid jail as well as other lies, and even attacked her newborn child, claiming the Palin kids were “fair game” because she “used them as props” at the GOP convention and they turned her into an unflattering caricature of herself.

Meanwhile, Palin stood strong despite the MSM lies and lying by omission by failing to report her accomplishments, while propping up an empty suit.

They turned the race into the Harvard educated intellectual vs. Wasilla white trash, not Obama vs. McCain.

Instead of reporting how inexperienced Obama was and is, and his lack of accomplishments, his close ties to domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers and never asking him a single tough question or looking into his past, they threw him softballs while also leveling false charges against McCain, accusing him of cheating on his wife, digging up the old story of Cindy McCain’s pain pill dependency, insinuating that McCain was mentally unstable after spending 5+ years as a POW under inhumane conditions and being tortured and similar stories.

Pew Research Group did a media study that proved that the MSM overwhelmingly did favorable stories about Obama/Biden while reporting mostly unfavorable stories about McCain/Palin

The MSM also insinuated that the moment McCain took the oath of office, he would drop dead of a heart attack, and that “crazy lady” from Alaska, which isn’t really a part of the US, would then take the position of POTUS and we would all be screwed by this wacky, crazy woman.

After the election, she was in court nearly every week to fight frivolous lawsuits, which was bankrupting her and her family, as her legal bills were about 7 times her yearly salary, and there were dozens more of these lawsuits lined up against her, which is why she stepped down as Governor.

She was unable to perform her duties as Governor as she was in court fighting lawsuits, or preparing to fight these frivolous lawsuits, making her ineffective as Governor, which was also bankrupting her and her family.

Remember, this is a woman that was fiscally responsible to a fault, turning down a mandatory pay raise as Governor.

With the legal bills piling up and dozens more frivolous lawsuits waiting to be filed, what were her options?

Go broke and be run out of office?

Or resign in the best interest of her constituents (and her family) so her Lt. Governor could do her job while she went out and made money to pay her legal fees?

2.7 Million people bought her first book long before the 2012 campaign season began. People wanted to read her story as it is an interesting one and she is a fascinating woman.

I bought and read her first book as well, not because I thought she was going to run for POTUS, but because I admired her and her accomplishments and read it for inspiration and for entertainment.

I stayed up late many a night because I couldn’t put her book down, and would be tired the next day at work.

Sarah Palin is the epitome of the American dream come true and she did it thru hard work.

This is a woman that ran a fishing business with her husband and did so hands on, not from an office behind a desk.

If she were anti-2nd Amendment and pro-abortion, the MSM would have idolized her.

But because of the two stances above, plus her religious beliefs, the MSM attacked her unlike any candidate in modern history.

I don’t blame her for not running, as it would likely guarantee four more years of Obama, even though Palin is the better candidate.

But perception equals reality, and Palin is “damaged goods” in perception, not in reality, and the MSM would step up their attacks to an even higher level to bring her down, down below Obama, who would look better by comparison if people went by what the MSM says, and that’s what many people base their votes on.

I have said it here many times that we have two enemies - the MSM and the Dems and in that order, as the MSM enables the Dems and allows them to get away with racism, misogyny, flat-out lies, and failing to vett or ask any Dems tough questions.

As I posted earlier, here is what the media would’ve written if Palin were elected:

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/227515/president-palins-first-100-days-victor-davis-hanson

Meanwhile, Obama and other Dems get a free pass.

I remember after Palin did the Charles Gibson/ABC interview and was asked a hypothetical question about Georgia (the Country, not the State) and if Georgia were a member of NATO, would Palin, as POTUS, send troops to defend Georgia? (Which is required by the US to defend other countries that are members of NATO) and of course, Palin gave the correct answer that yes, we are required to defend our NATO allies.

The next day, nearly every news outlet reported that “Palin wants to go to war with Russia”

http://news.scotsman.com/world/Palin-39prepared-for-war-with.4488838.jp

Like I said in an earlier post, you can’t fight City Hall, and you can’t fight 90% of a rabid, unhinged media that is out to destroy you.

Palin is as tough as they come, but decided against running as she is probably fatigued from her last campaign, her weekly court battles, 3 straight years of media attacks and will likely spend her time and energy on ridding the GOP of RINO’s and Corruption.

She is a relatively young woman and can run in 2016 or 2020 if she chooses, but I think she realizes that the GOP is filled with RINO’s and Crooks, and wants to get them out of office and to replace them with Tea Party candidates.

Perhaps at that time, she may run for POTUS, but if she chooses to retire from politics and the public life completely and enjoy her life away from under the microscope, I wouldn’t blame her one bit.

It’s her life. She doesn’t owe anyone anything. No one forced anyone to donate money to her, to buy her book, or to volunteer their time, especially when she never even threw her hat in the ring.

I believe after her bus tour and her biopic drew crowds but didn’t raise her polling numbers, she made the right choice.

While her support runs deep, it isn’t wide or at least, wide enough.

If you feel “betrayed” and upset, you only have yourself to blame for getting your hopes up that she would run for POTUS

She didn’t string anyone along. She thought long and hard about her decision and made it long before the deadline for the first primary.

It’s her life and it’s her choice, and she likely realized that the MSM would never allow her to win the WH, and would make the attacks of the last 3 years look like compliments by comparison to what they would do to her if she were the GOP nominee.

It’s time to focus our energy on getting President Zero out of office.
