In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

ni·hil·ism [nahy-uh-liz-uhm, nee-] noun

1. total rejection of established laws and institutions.
2. anarchy, terrorism, or other revolutionary activity.
3. total and absolute destructiveness, especially toward the world at large and including oneself: the power-mad nihilism that marked Hitler's last years.
4. Philosophy
a. an extreme form of skepticism: the denial of all real existence or the possibility of an objective basis for truth.
b. nothingness or nonexistence.
5. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) the principles of a Russian revolutionary group, active in the latter half of the 19th century, holding that existing social and political institutions must be destroyed in order to clear the way for a new state of society and employing extreme measures, including terrorism and assassination.
6. annihilation of the self, or the individual consciousness, especially as an aspect of mystical experience.

Example sentence:
Occupy (your city here) is nothing more than an exercise in nihilism by slacker progressives.

Etymology:
1810–20; Latin nihil nothing (variant of nihilum; see nil) + -ism

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Nihilism: A condition where you have an overwhelming desire to climb a rise and give a shrubbery to a knight.

When did that term come into existence? I thought you were referring to some grocery store sponsor or something. Or a cross between a weasel and an eagle.

"weagle"? tarik, did you invent that? can we ban that term please? sounds like some hybrid dog species, like a labradoodle. please, this is a hockey team, not the westminster kennel club.

LOL

in the intervening three years since this article, it has been accepted into common parlance as the name of Caps logo. if it sounded silly then, it doesn’t raise an eyebrow any more. is there a name for the little penguin in a triangle?

What a perfect word for these strange days!

The nihilism of the clueless bunch
Who are trashing a New York park
Illustrates their lack of manners
In a way both offensive and stark

Were they never taught the lesson
Of respecting the property of others?
Or were they always apologized for
And cleaned up after by their mothers?

They won’t pick up trash, or take a bath
They defecate in public like jerks-
They say they won’t do menial jobs-
Small wonder that none of them works

Have you heard them interviewed? I’ve never heard such entitlement complexes in my life. A+ for you!
