Perry did manage to ruffle “Mr.Cool-Slick’s” feathers. And it was a deserved pay-back. Romney looked like plastic, phony yes-man he has always been. He studies carefully what he thinks people want to hear. Perry exposed him like a wart on a frog's ass on that one and also demonstrated that when Romney gets exposed for what he is, he comes apart like a Singapore watch..

Longbow is correct; it was a very pro-Romney crowd. CNN clearly had it stacked. I think that Newt won the debate. He was right on in trying to point out Anderson Cooper’s objective of provoking bickering.

Why would anyone want to watch a “debate” moderated by Anderson Cooper on CNN?

My thoughts exactly. Can anyone spell "setup"?

Newt was the most intelligent in the room, Paul the most honest. I loved Bachman’s answer on the 14th amendment, but she bombed on the housewife thing, and really bombed on Iran and defense. Herman waffled, Santorum is reminding me of Eddie Haskell. Mitt and Perry..forget it!

Audience was stacked with LDS, so Mitt finally got some applause, although he scored no points against anyone but Perry. Perry was unwatchable as usual. He started great points, and then repeatedly lost his train of thought. Great response to Yucca Q. talking about France, and then just STOPPED midway and changed the subject. Is he drunk? I don’t get it. Romney’s weaknesses are EASY...but Perry can’t debate his way out of a paper bag. Santorum reamed both Perry and Romney. Bachmann gets kudos for being the only one not to duck the 14th Amend. Q and actually mentioned “anchor babies” AND Obama’s illegal alien Aunt and Uncle. NICE! Cain sounded silly with the apples + oranges exchanges, and never adequately explained how people pay for sales tax anyway (in most states) and that this is in PLACE of the current Fed tax system. I like how no one pandered to the stupid “Latino” premise - nice work everyone. Ron Paul represented the Lynne Stewart wing with his “they’re only suspects at Gitmo!” harrangue (barf!). But my favorite part was Newt upbraiding Anderson TeaBag and demanding Lincoln-Douglas debates with the boy-king Obama. Can you just imagine Obama vs. Newt for 3 hours with no moderator? Obama would melt!

I agree. It was a pro Romney crowd. The libs want Romney because they know a lot of conservatives will stay home on voting day.

Newt doesn’t understand the mortgage business. His proposal that would allow people to refinance even when they’re underwater won’t work without fraudulent appraisals. He says local banks would refinance these loans. I wonder how long a local bank president would last when the board learned the bank had been making $150,000 loans on properties valued at $100,000.

as well as the most and the best TV ads, is the one who will win the nomination.

Yup. Pretty much why I still think it comes down to Romney and Perry. They can raise big money from the big donors, the others probably won't be able to compete. The people with the big bucks want to back a winner, and they will go with the safest options which are probably Mitt and Rick.

Still, much as I have my doubts about Cain being able to seriously compete, he really does come off as a true happy warrior. He is very likable, and while I don't support 999 because of the consumption tax, I do like that Herman is willing to put big things on the table.

I agree with you that 2/3rds of the electorate isn't paying attention, but I think you diminish the impact of these debates. Just look at Perry. He entered the race and was dominating the polls and it was looking like it was his race too lose. Perry then goes on to several miserable debate performances and his stupid "heartless" comment and he is almost down to single digit territory. While I think he can come back, and tonight was a good start, the debates do really matter because of the significant amount of coverage they get for days and weeks after the fact.

Santorum then Newt, then Mitt, then Cain (I say that not that he did bad, just didn’t mix it up much and they didn’t give him time).

I hate Mitt so much though, I wish there was someone there who made him look much worse.

30 seconds is not much time to make a point, let alone set a verbal trap in a debate. Hence, the best times were when both candidates talked at once. At these times the true thoughts of a candidate might come out.

A negative example was when Romney said he would repeal obama”care” and then said that he knew how to lower health costs. Oops, make up your mind Mitt!

Newt was the adult in the room, but stopped short on what his ideas would be.

Perry is tiring with his “I’ll get back to you on that” promises. Romney is VERY tiring with his “I know how to do it” approach. Romney chooses not to look the camera lens “in the eye” which may be a regional habit, not sure on that.

Paul really told it straight, and seemed to get the longest and loudest reception.

Santorium dug deep, but rather thin on his idea file.

Bachmann is a fighter, and would therefore make a great Veep.

The best ideas are still those of Herman Cain. He needs to ease up a bit, and be more of a good ol’ boy when he answers: talk slow, think fast.

I liked the various ideas, and the discussions. Best part was when Perry said “ Anderson, you get to ask the questions, and I get to answer them.”

Winner: The Republican Party for such a stellar group of Candidates with ideas.

I would have to say the unelectable, baggage toting, insider who had his pic made with Nanny Pelosi next President of these United States wins, again. As he is the only candidate with the wisdom and clarity to project well in these charades that pass for debates. Perhaps he’ll get his moment should the Demoncrat nominee (probably not Barry) take him on the Lincoln / Douglas format. So tell me how ANY one person on that stage is “electable”. Media dribble. O’Romney is praying for the fourth quarter to get here while the lame-stream media keep tinkering with the game clock. Michelle and Santorum offer up valid core concerns for conservatives that need to be heard at this level. They should continue sounding off until they become redundant then offer support to the “most rightward viable conservative in the field”. Only Perry, Cain and Newt have a snowballs chance. Perry comes off sounding like a school kid. Cain, bless his heart, is as well meaning as they come. But Herman, this is the big league, no OJT here. Hang out for a few years, perhaps in a cabinet level post and get back to me. RP is just being RP. Is it just me or did anyone else recognize how eerily Cooper looks like he could be Ron Paul’s offspring? And what’s with that Stalingrad/Castro uniform Bachmann wears? Yuk, was that a booger I saw on O’Romneys chin? Debates, ah what a pastime! That’s about as honest as it comes, dude!

Newt wins all the time. He is the knowledgeable adult in the room under all circumstances. Cain is OK but Newt slays them all. He is knowledgeable and cool under fire. Frankly, I’d hire him in a heart beat but pair him up with a finisher for his ideas. He is a CO that needs a very competent, energetic and willing XO.

I am a Cain guy. But I agree Newt won the debate. Cain needs to do better in explaining that the 9% NST is not a new tax added to the price of goods but replaces the hidden tax already added on to the price of goods before you take it off the self.

I prefer a Cain/Newt ticket but would be happy with they other way around.

Herman Cain was great with Newt second for his ability to disable the questions.

First of all, I’m a Conservative in Texas and I’m not a fan of Perry.
Now, tonight I thought Newt won, with Cain coming in second. I’m a huge Ron Paul fan, and he did well, but of course he got no facetime.
Bachmann needs to drop out. She is trying way too hard, and I got sick of hearing her laugh at everything any other candidate joked about. Santorum needs to go too, he is polling at about 1%.
The debate itself was a joke. I learned NOTHING I didn’t already know.
My ticket would be Keyes/Watts, or Watts/Keyes. :)
