Obama's pen pals: When you write to the president he might write you back

Every night before he goes to sleep, the president of the United States reads 10 letters from the pile of 20,000 sent to him by Americans every day. Sometimes, he writes back. He's even, on occasion, included a check. "It's not something I should advertise, but it has happened," President Barack Obama told reporter Eli Saslow, author of the new book, "Ten Letters: The Stories Americans Tell Their President." Saslow has spent a year poring over the presidential mail, sent from Americans weathering the desperate economic climate. There's Natoma Canfield, the cleaning woman battling cancer who can't afford to pay her medical bills. “I live in the house my mother and father built in 1958 and I am so afraid of the possibility I might lose this family heirloom as a result of being forced to drop my health care insurance." ....... Obama isn't the only president with a tendency to take on pen pals. During Reagan’s time in the White House, he developed a close writing relationship with 6-year-old Rudy Hines, a Washington D.C. elementary student. What started as a kind of an educational stunt— when Reagan selected the strong writing student out of hundreds at his school to be his pen pal— turned into an incredible friendship. Throughout Reagan's presidency, from 1984 to 1989, Rudy exchanged hundreds of missives with the world leader, amassing postcards from presidential travels, advice on literature and doodles from the Oval Office. "There was one incident where he gave me advice [after] I had a falling-out with a friend. He gave me advice on how to reconcile with my friend and the advice did work. So I will always remember and thank him for that," Hines told CBS News in 2007.

“It’s not something I should advertise, but nonetheless, I’m going to advertise it to this author of a book about how great I am.”

The news told me today that Obama sometimes sends personal checks to people who pen him sob stories.

BRB, writing a letter to Hussein. I’m going to aim low to keep my story believable. Going to say the mean insurance company refused to reimburse me $248.90 and I need that exact amount of money to help pay Grandma’s mortgage or she will be foreclosed on by a greedy bank run by a GOP donor with connections to the Koch brothers.

How does one begin the letter to that POS? Dear Mr President or Dear Mr Hussein, or Dear Mr Osama, or Dear POS? decisions, decisions.

Dear Usurper of Kenya:

Please send me a check so I can be a fleabag. I don’t want to take responsibility for myself. Can you get me a job with one of the companies you bailed out. Those evil corporations run by the GOP are evil that they won’t give me a job. I accept CASH only since those evil banks wont cash it. Your pen pal for life Fleabagger.

"It's not something I should advertise, but it has happened," President Barack Obama told reporter Eli Saslow, author of the new book, "Ten Letters:

Another "photo op" of sorts. You have to wonder if this is as made up as his (supposedly authored by him) books which have been shown to be fairy tales. I would think a President would read letters at random from the American people, more than 10 at times, less at other times, but read some of them on a semi regular basis. After all he is suppose to be the President of the American people. This should be considered normal.

Bush did many things, like visit injured warriors, that truly were done in quiet, with an obviously sincere heart.

OMG! Does “Piper Weiss” (Can’t you see an image in your head of this little bimbette, whose normal writing is the stuff of DU, and who thinks Obozo is sooo coool) actually expect anyone to believe this moron receives 20,000 letters per day? LOL! That’s 7,300,000 per year. The only way this president receives that kind of mail is if 80% of it is from people writing to tell him he’s the biggest jacka$$ on the planet, and he would try and have the FBI, IRS, ATF, and Secret Service crawling up everyone of their rectums!
Someone please find a way to track her on the night of 11/6/12 so we can post the image of her sitting on a street corner somewhere bawling her eyes out over the defeat of her messiah. I still love that picture of the Kerry supporter crying like her best friend died the day after Lurch got spanked! LOL

I can just see him writing those letters, looking in the mirror often and checking his bedroom teleprompter before each sentence to correct all the ‘uhs’ & ‘ers.
