I sit down and list fifty things I am thankful for. Runs the gamut from my loved ones, to hot showers (no Navy showers) to Free Republic.

The exercise each year helps me to refocus and not take things for granted.

My in-laws, who live in Vermont, serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal using nothing that comes in a can. On Friday, they have a tradition of making Johnnycakes.

Do you live alone?

I hope you find someone to share dinner with this year, FRiend.

After giving praise to the Lord, I go directly to my wife's candied sweet potatoes.

One more entry for the list of "Things that sound dirty at Thanksgiving, but aren't."

Seriously, though...this year, I get to fry a turkey again, after a 1-year hiatus due to our move to Wisconsin.

If it’s too cold, I’ll be frying a turkey and getting sauced while watching football.

My family is so addicted to sweet potatoes that we eat turkey and such on the side. The sweet potatoes are the major attraction.

I’ll take them prepared anyway as long as it includes lots of butter and brown sugar. At which point it practically ceases to be a vegetable, but that’s the point.

I just don't like people!

Actually, I'm hosting dinner for 12 at my place. God help the person who enters my kitchen asking if I need help.

My friend and I once talked about Thanksgiving memories, and we both mentioned the smell of the turkey cooking (takes me back immediately) and the look of the window as it starts to mist over because of the cold outside and the hot turkey cooking inside.

Stuffing made on cookie pans and baked until crispy--then softened with good gravy when ready to eat.

Cast iron skillet made white cornbread, using a cornmeal mix with nothing added to the cornbread except milk and oil (no sugar!! no eggs!)...allow to cool, and crumble. Add lot of chopped onions, turkey seasonings, maybe cooked bacon to crumbled cornbread. Add enough meat broth to soften mix until workable, and then work in a couple of eggs. Spread onto cookie sheet about half an inch thick, bake until dry and toasty-topped.

Slice like a pizza, put on plate. When ready to eat, pour on the steaming turkey gravy.

I cannot stand soggy dressing...

Thanksgiving Brunch at the Yacht Club. $18.95 pp.

Yikes, I can do the entire spread for that. Turkey, corn casserole, cornbread sage dressing, giblet gravy, corn casserole, deviled eggs, sweet potatoes, corn casserole, homemade rolls, cranberry sauce, corn casserole, pumpkin and pecan pies. Did I mention corn cassserole, yummmm! Mine, all mine!!!

So now we just put an unopened can of sweet potatoes in the middle of the table.

Too funny. For those who don't like sweet potatoes but feel the need to serve them, make a sweet potato pie instead of pumpkin. No one will know the difference.

Save a couple pieces of that bacon and eat them with the pumpkin pie. The sweet with the salty is, I kid you not, hog heaven!

I'll try it. But if you like that, don't miss out on deep-fried dill pickles if you get the chance.

I tried them once as an appetizer because the thought of dipping a pickle in batter and frying it was silly and amusing. One bite and I was in love. The tangy, juicy pickle with the crispy, hot fried batter packs a wallop of flavor.

Not enough green bean, too much vomit is the problem

I actually like it but only when fresh out of the oven. It’s inedible when cold.
