My normal response would be “unbelievable.” But having followed F1 for six decades, it is completely believable.

this is likely why they announced the Jersey race

The Jersey race could be a great one instead of the outskirts of Austin

F1: Ecclestone - Austin Race Set To Be Called Off
F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone says the Austin GP, scheduled for next November, is on the verge of being cancelled...

Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that the US GP is on the verge of disappearing from the 2012 calendar – and that nobody holds a contract to run the race.

In essence, the final deadline for any kind of resolution is the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in India on Dec. 7.

Speaking to Ian Parkes of the UK’s Press Association, Ecclestone admitted that the race would be dropped if there was no solution in the coming days: “Yes, it will be, for sure, 100 percent.”

Ecclestone also confirmed that Tavo Hellmund’s Full Throttle Productions no longer holds a contract to run the race, because it has been cancelled. Circuit of the Americas’ Bobby Epstein has thus been in negotiation over a totally new contract, rather than an acquisition of the one held by Hellmund.

“We had an agreement with Full Throttle Productions,” Ecclestone told Parkes. “Everything was signed and sealed, but we kept putting things off like the dates, various letters of credit and things that should have been sent, but nothing ever happened.

“Then these other people [Epstein and COTA] came on the scene, saying that they wanted to do things, but that they had problems with Tavo.

“They said they had the circuit, and that they wanted an agreement with me. I told them they had to sort out the contract with Tavo, which they said they would. But that has gone away now because we’ve cancelled Tavo’s contract as he was in breach.

“We’ve waited six months for him to remedy the breach. He knows full well why we’ve cancelled. He’s happy. But these other people haven’t got a contract. All we’ve asked them to do is get us a letter of credit.

“We are looking for security for money they are going to have to pay us. That is via a letter of credit, normally from a bank. If people don’t have the money, they find it difficult to get the letter of credit, and so we don’t issue a contract.”

The big problem is that the race no longer has any guarantee of receiving $25 million from the Texas Major Events Trust Fund, which was to have funded the sanctioning fee due to Ecclestone and the Formula One organization.

I knew it! I’m sure the promoters already gave Bernie a bunch of cash to secure a spot on the schedule, and the Bernie was going to find a way to take the cash and stiff them on the race!

I saw this coming a long time ago. Unless the race brings the national money trough for Bernie to guzzle at, he’s not interested in a race. Ask Tony George about that.

Jiminy Cricket on a popsicle stick! It’s like Peter Windsor and US F1. The whole thing makes about as much sense as the OWS fleabaggers. The promoter didn’t have a contract with the racetrack owner, but did have one with F1, but now the racetrack owner is trying to negotiate with F1, but they canceled the race. Who’s on first?

All we need now is some strange S&M videos to come out and F1 weirdness will go to a new level.

I guess there is always New Jersey. I can’t believe I’m pining my hopes for a USGP on New Jersey ...

I find it comical that Ecclestone claimed that Gribkowsky was nothing more than a casual drinking friend of his wife. Talk about a classic text book Bernie swindle.

At the same time, I cannot blame the guy, along with all the other high net worth English from doing everything they can to dodge the insane tax rates of the open borders socialist utopia that almost burned to the ground a few months ago from all the wonderful diversity it promoted.

Anyone agree that his daughter paying about asking price for the biggest mansion in Beverly Hills a few months ago was nothing but a frantic attempt to stash the family cash horde in overseas investments that can’t be seized by the mother queen?

While it’s a shame the Austin GP won’t happen, when your dealing with the Bernie traveling circus/whorehouse, you better remember the risks you take.

US GP deadline extended for another week

Bernie Ecclestone has given the organisers of the US Grand Prix in Austin one week to agree to a deal to host the race in 2012.

Ecclestone had said November 30 was the deadline for the Circuit of the Americas to sign the contract, but that has now extended it.

“The deadline hasn’t been met, so we are still trying to make it happen,” Ecclestone told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “They need to get some money and a pen … as soon as possible. They know full well. Deadlines are terrible things because people always go to the end of the deadline. But if it isn’t all signed before the World Motor Sport Council meeting, it can’t happen.”

The next World Motor Sport Council meeting will take place on December 7 and the signing off of the 2012 calendar is on the agenda. The Circuit of the Americas has said it has the money to the host the race, but there is a sticking point over the terms of the contract. Ecclestone, who has sent issued a new contract for the circuit to sign, said it would be a shame if the race did not go ahead.

“They are struggling to get the financial side sorted out — that’s the problem,” he added. “They are trying to do it. It would be a loss to everyone (if it didn’t happen). They would like the race to take place … I’d rather see the race happen than not.”

Austin confirms new deal to save US Grand Prix
ESPNF1 Staff
December 7, 2011

The Circuit of the Americas has agreed a new deal with Bernie Ecclestone to ensure the 2012 US Grand Prix goes ahead, according to race organisers.

The circuit was given until December 7 to find the money to pay this year’s sanctioning fee and agree to Ecclestone’s terms. On deadline day the FIA announced that the race would remain on the calendar and soon after the circuit issued a press release confirming the news.

“Mr. Ecclestone received his cheque today for the USGP,” Red McCombs, a founding partner of the circuit said in a statement. “We want to thank the fans supporting us, the local officials and businesses that have encouraged us, the state of Texas, Circuit of The Americas’ staff and Bernie himself.”

Fellow founding partner Bobby Epstein added: “Our investors have believed all along that this project has tremendous benefit for our region, and provides a strong economic engine for the future. “We remain committed to reaching our goal of being valuable community partners as we establish a platform for sports and entertainment. We’re glad that Tavo [Hellmund]’s vision of bringing F1 to the people of Texas will become a reality.”

The statement added that construction at the circuit will resume immediately, with president of the Circuit of the Americas Steve Sexton saying interest in tickets is high.

“We have a substantial number of fans who have expressed interest in buying tickets and hospitality, so today is a win for all of them as much as it is for Circuit of The Americas,” he added.

*hand clapping* Bravo COTA and F1, bravo.

Now I must admit, being born in Missouri, I’ll believe it when I see it.
