Anyone who reads all the quotes from Newt that you just listened and isn't concerned almost has to be have at least a few closet liberal tendencies. I agree that Newt is very smart and I really enjoyed the debate between him and Mr. Cain the other night. I was a huge Newt fan back in the day. But he is an opportunist with a lot of baggage. I will support him if he is the candidate who wins the nomination.

The “I cheated on my wives because I am so patriotic.” thing was disgusting, too.

“Newt can ‘claim’ conservatism, he sat on that couch. That did him in. He sat on that couch.”

I’m with you. That couch move is scary stuff. I can forgive a Republican who has a dinner with Muzzie leader who is identified with supporting terrorism, for two reasons:
1) Every Muslim leader supports terrorism, so no choice there if you want to be seen with one.
2) Republicans know next to nothing about Islam

But for Heaven’s Sake. Newt knows EXACTLY who Pelosi is and EXACTLY what she stands for. I realize that I’m a Cain supporter...and therefore support him over Newt anyway, but even so, there is still NO EXCUSE for what Newt did. It wasn’t just a brain fart at a debate, it was something that he had a LOT of time to think about and consider the implications.

...and to this day, we’ll never know for sure if it was that advertisement that convinced Justice Anthony Kennedy to give the EPA the right to regulate carbon. And the Court does get influenced by stunts like that, when they think the country is unified in wanting to go that way.

I can’t forget how excited I was in 1994 when this “closet liberal” brought the republican party back from the dead. His positives out weigh his negatives for me. in these times I am willing to go with a little faith with Newt!!

I’m not as brilliant as Newt, but I know AGW is crap.

Will vote for him in General Election (Unless it is NEWT/NAZI 2012).....in primary? NO SALE!

Newt’s climate change ad way back in 2008 is not a major issue for me. The exposing of the fake East Anglia Climate Research didn’t happen until late 2009, so the majority of the science in 2008 was on the side of climate change.

I daresay some on Free Republic might have argued in favor of open-mindedness about climate change back in 2008. It would probably be easy enough to check on.

So, this is hardly an issue at all. And even Newt has said that looking back it was a dumb thing.

What’s important to me is: (1) Pro-Life, (2) Pro-God, (3) Pro-Gun, (4) Pro-Natural Marriage & Family, (5) Pro-Fiscal Sanity, (6) Pro-Military, (7) Pro-America, etc.

Newt meets all those standards.

I haven’t. Newt’s still a big government conservative. His record proves it

I think Newt has redeemed himself to a good degree but some of his acolytes are a bit sanctimonious of late.

And roving bandits who ceaselessly post the Pelosi-Newt photo in any thread Newt-connected are what in your view?

There is a cabal who trash every candidate not their anointed choice––one who was not their choice until recently! They are not interest in new information or relevant facts, just mockery. On thread-after-thread related to other candidates, it's the same tired thing: Destroy! Destroy! Destroy!

Do they care about their anointed one's failings? Gaffes? Misstatements? Knowledge gaps? Bad endorsements? Flip-flops? Bad policy advocacies? Personal history?

NO.

They're hypocrites, trolls and triangulating assassins.

Careful... Play the wrong card in the hand and we’ll all pay...

I hear you. Despite my off-handed compliment of Newt, I would vote for him any day over Barry. He's probably my 4th/5th pick at this point and has moved up from near last.

We all pay, we all have been paying and we all will continue to pay.

DEFUND socialist collectives, foreign and domestic.

I was just as excited as you about Newt in 1994. People do seem to forget that it was Newt and the Republican party that was responsible for the fiscal responsibility that resulted in deficits dropping to nothing during Clinton’s time in office. But I personally cannot help but be concerned about many of the quotes and positions taken by Newt since that time. There have been many that have not been mentioned in this thread. I will certainly support Newt if he wins the nomination but not without a certain amount of trepidation.

“He’s the same guy your man said he would pick as vice president of all the other candidates. It looks like you are in opposition with your own guy!!”

Newt can’t do much damage with his flakiness as VP...I could live with it, but you’re right, I’m not crazy about it.

Newt is good for Cain simply because he knows DC. But then there are many others that fit that bill (and aren’t flaky).

Same flake that Herman punted that question to when he had no idea what he had just been asked...same as when he was asked about the right of palestinian return. How you gona feel when he has one of those moments with zero sitting across the table.

You may feel differently, but I have a MUCH LARGER problem with a guy who sits on that couch with Pelosi, than I do with someone that doesn’t understand the Right of Return.

Newt has a personality flaw and this is it. He’s an approval suck. His central idenity is lies in his work as a history professor in academia. He can not have pride in his character - he has basically been a self serving slut in his relationships. But he does have great pride in his intellegence and academic success.

He sees himself as a “smart guy” and conservatives are rejected by his internationalist/Marxist academic peers as the stupid ass of America. He caves to it in peer pressure to get their approval -hoping they will notice that he is smart like them and that they will bless him with their smart wand and include him in their intellectual circles. He does not have a steady track record of being able to withstand the liberal elitist shun in order to do the right thing.

He’ll betray his own intellegence (fall to the lies of political correctness) in order to get approval. He does not do it all the time, but often enough that he’s a problem for conservatives. But not as big a problem as the amoral international socialist Mitt Romney who has the opposite of a conservative intellegence and character.
