Grasshopper in pic is known as a lubber...very common in Florida....will eat any vegetation...cannot fly. Male is about half the size of a female..offspring are black. It has no terrestrial enemies but is eaten by certain fish. If you see one on your property, best kill it.

how big is that thing?

i remember i was in texas and someone was trying to show me a locust in the tree that were making all that noise

I was looking for a fly or a small grasshopper size thing and almost completely missed the 5 inch bug right in front of me
