Danann Tyler, who was born male but now dresses as a little girl and has long hair, says she was bullied at school and felt hurt by other children telling her she was a boy.
The eight-year-old MTF (male to female) from Orange County, California, is the subject of a new feature length documentary about transgender people.
In a special edition of the Anderson talk show, 'Children &Teens Caught In The Wrong Bodies' which is scheduled to air on Wednesday, she told journalist Anderson Cooper: 'My school, people were telling me that I was a boy and it made me really sad.'
Danann's parents, Sarah and Bill Tyler, who also appeared on the show, said they did not know what was wrong with their son when, from aged two, he insisted he was a girl.
By age six Danann was so unhappy she was threatening to hang herself.
Doctors diagnosed the child as bipolar, dyslexic and ADHD and prescribed various medications.
The Tylers consulted gay friends, who said that she was probably more than just a gay child.

If parents and doctors do not give a 6-7-8 year old the appropriate medical care they should be charged with a crime. A human being is either male or female. Not in between not half and half and not the opposite of how they actually were born. Are there no adults left?
Maybe the employees should start buying lots of desserts and fatty foods for him as gifts and hope that his inevitable coronary happens a little quicker.

You know, sometimes kids really do have interests of the opposite sex when they’re little. If parents handled it calmly and didn’t go crazy one way (yelling at a boy for playing with a doll for instance) and didn’t give in the other way (oh ok, you can be a girl now) then that preference would probably just manifest itself properly when they’re older IE an attraction to the opposite sex.
Hello, weird liberals, small kids haven’t hit puberty yet. They just want to be kids and they like all kinds of different things when they’re little. YOU, in fact, are the ones encouraging them to be someone they are NOT by ENCOURAGING THEM to change their sex!
There is no such thing as a transgendered 8 year old. Only parents who should have the child taken away and raised in a mentally healthy family.
I find it hard to believe that on his/her own an 8 year old would have any clue about being transgendered. The kids parents must be nuts and be pushing the kid in that direction.

Not to defend her, but maybe she is intersexed...(rare, but it does happen).
It is possible, and more details are needed. But the rate at which you have the intersexed kids is less common than people who ask for a so-called sex-changing operations, at least now it is, and that’s the sad fact about it all: the fact that it’s more common to get some disfiguring operation more than the rate of people being born with traits of both genders. The real issue here is wondering where the honest queestions of the parents come in. I had my own false impressions from thinking that life as a dog was cool to believing in Santa Claus, but my parents didn’t simply sit around and let me have my way as if all of those were true. When the time came, I got over all of those false associations and gotten back to what was real and mattered in my life. I worry that plenty of so-called “good parents” don’t give their kids the proper skepticism or demonstration of disbelief that the kid deserves.
Get ready little fellow, when you hit “that age” you’ll be shaving your pits, your face, your legs. Better stock up on razors.
