The oldest, lamest and most stale line in history.

Sorry that you don't understand the game. The players are top notch people compared to the other sports.

Cold weather Yankee sport. :)

Did you hear the reason why the leper colony had to stop their hockey game early?

Because there was a face off in the corner.

It is catching on at the pro level. Not so much in grade school athletics.

The problem with hockey is the TV coverage sucks. The puck is to little and hard to follow, it needs to be about a foot in diameter.

It takes time watching as anticipation of where the puck may go is a definite factor. I've been watching since I was five, attending games since I was six and playing since I was six. I still play twice a week at age 48 in an over 40 league here in Columbus.

If you ever get a chance to see a game in person, give it a try. HUGE difference. Think of the baseball difference times 10.

“The problem with hockey is the TV coverage sucks. The puck is to little and hard to follow, it needs to be about a foot in diameter.”

That’s a legit complaint, but the more you watch the game, the better you get at following the puck. High def TV helps, and just about every consequential action on the ice gets replay from several angles, especially at the pro level.

Don’t know how much hockey you’ve watched, but a while back the league tried to remedy the visibility problem by using something like a fluorescent puck - you’d see this eerie colored streak go zipping across your TV screen. They didn’t stick with that approach for too long.

” I still play twice a week at age 48 in an over 40 league here in Columbus”

Assuming that’s the one in Ohio - I’m still amazed a town that size (that’s not in Canuckland) is able to support an NHL franchise. I hope they hang on - it would be cool to see Columbus become the equivalent of the NFL’s Green Bay, another town that nobody would figure for a major pro team. Plus, the Hawks have been feeding on the Blue Jackets pretty regularly lately - don’t want to lose those wins!

Uh, dude, this "town" has a population of 800,000 in a metro of 1.9 million.

It's the 15th largest city in America.

Columbus is not a ‘small’ town.

Government remained in the hands of Julia Measa, who ruled as regent until her death in AD 223 or 224.

Abslute power passed on into the hands of Julia Mamaea (mother to the de facto Emperor). Mamaea governed moderately, advised by an imperial council of 16 distinguished senators. This was Rome's last chance - if not ONLY - to establish an Republic.

Nevertheless, Rome struggled to accept to be ruled by a woman (Livia being totally forgotten by this time - except for homeage and prayers required to the divine).

Was Julia Mamaea's rule not as firm as that of Julia Maesa, it only encouraged a revolt by the increasingly hostile praetorians. At some point there was even fighting in the streets of Rome, between the ordinary people and the praetorian guard. These outrages might well have been the reason why the execution of their commanders Julius Flavianus and Gemininius Chrestus was ordered.

Sparked off by these executions, either in late AD 223 or early 224, the praetorians staged a serious mutiny. Their leader was a certain Marcus Aurelius Epagathus. Most prominent victim of the praetorian revolt was the praetorian prefect Domitius Ulpianus; who had been a distinguished writer and jurist, as well as being Mamaea's right hand man in government. Her chief advisor killed, Julia Mamaea found herself humiliatingly forced to publicly thank the mutinous Epagathus and was required to 'reward' him with the post of governor of Egypt.

Later however, Julia Mamaea and Alexander had their revenge by managing to arrange for his assassination.

It all went down-hill from there...

The city of Colma, just south of San Francisco has a population of 1,792 live ones, and many, many times that number of corpses (cemeteries dominate the landscape.) It is however part of a “metro”, that is the contiguous area of Bay Area of, I’m told, over 6 million. So, it too deserves to be called a “big city”. You got it right, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Woah - I had no idea. When I think Ohio, I always think Cleveland, then Cincinnati, then Columbus. (Well, okay, I try not to think about them at all, let alone in that order, but you know what I mean).

Plus I’m not sure it’s fair if about 10% of your population turns over every four years - although that’s being picky.

But it just seemed weird that there was NHL in Columbus, but not Cleveland or Cincinnati.

But as long as we keeping beating the Blue Jackets, that’s okay!

Cleveland has three major league teams (and had the NHL in the '70s and blew it), Cincinnati has two; that's why the NHL chose Columbus. Columbus is the only growing metro area as well, with the healthiest economy.

We shall see in the years to come how the Jackets fare...they are under contract to play here until the 2039-2040 season.

Beats Ohio State, I hate those b#st@rds.
