Year-End Freeper Poll -- What are Your Top 10 Music choices of 2011?
Nov. 29

Posted on 11/29/2011 11:01:50 AM PST by GSWarrior

2011 was a great year for music, IMO. What have you purchased or listened to this year that you liked?

My list is mostly Americana-type music and were all released in 2011-- but feel free to add anything.

I haven't listened to a large volume of music, but these are the ones I keep coming back to. Some are obscure, some are well-known.

1. Tristen -- Charletons at the Garden Gate
2. Eilen Jewell -- Queen of the Minor Key
3. Zoe Muth & the Lost High Rollers -- Starlight Hotel
4. Ray Manzarek & Roy Rogers -- Translucent Blues
5. Buddy Miller -- Magnificent Silver Strings
6. Freddy and Francine -- Forest and the Sea
7. Kip Boardman -- The Long Weight
8. William Tyler -- Behold the Spirit
9. Mike Farris and the Cumberland Saints -- The Night the Cumberland Came Alive
10. Glen Campbell -- Ghose on the Canvas

Where is Foster the People - Pumped up the kick?
Where is Maroon 5?

That listing I don’t know any of them. Who chose those as being the songs that are being voted on? We all didn’t get a say in this?

Definitly “Pumped Up Kicks” as well as “Rollin’ In the Deep.” I'll also add “Red Solo Cup.” Was Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone” this year also? If so that goes on my list.

Not Ray for sure. Glen Campbell - I thought he was some country singer from the 60’s.

Well, here are my two favorites of the year.

First is a 40 something year old man from England who uses the name ‘ Ghostpoet ‘. A song unlike any I have ever heard. Mournful and definately written by someone in mid-life.
Listen to the lyrics and tell me what you think.

Next one is ‘ Lonely Boy ‘ by The Black Keys. Really a fun song. The gentleman dancing is a part time security guard at the hotel where they were going to film the video. Well, they saw his dance moves and decided to change the entire music video. Really a fun song / video.

Manzarek was keyboard player in the Doors.

Campbell is recording some of the best music of his career right now--also suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, sorry to say.

Foster the People is great. I also found a group on Sirius XM I like called Army Navy (no military affiliation), and another one called Fences.

Snow Patrol - I'll Never Let Go

Snow Patrol - New York

Snow Patrol - The Weight Of Love

Snow Patrol - Those Distant Bells
The car crunches gravel
And the wind licks at you
This dark spell you're under
Has you dumbstruck by the gate

And it hurts every muscle
Just to walk back to the house
Now this home that you both made
It looks haunted from the yard

You can hear those distant bells
And you know they'll never leave
It's like your church is crying out
Like the wolf calls to her young

And the dark never enters
But it also never leaves
And this spark that he gave you
Is just an ember all but out

If he'd one eye on the exit
Oh you never would have known
Until he drove off in the darkness
Like some slowly fading song

You can hear those distant bells
And you know they'll never leave
It's like your church is crying out
Like the wolf calls to her young

Snow Patrol - In The End

Snow Patrol - Broken Bottles Form A Star (Prelude)
