Question: If warming really threatens to destroy human civilization, why was Jones hoping for warming?
And if the world was still warming in 2009, why did Jones refer to “lack of warming”?

Tim, Chris, I hope you’re not right about the lack of warming lasting till about 2020. … I seem to be getting an email a week from skeptics saying where’s the warming gone. I know the warming is on the decadal scale, but it would be nice to wear their smug grins away.

Because it is not science. In their emails they refer to global warming as “the cause.” When Marxism failed, the left turned to environmentalism as their means of seizing state control over the economy and global warming fit the bill completely. Gotta “save the planet” doncha know.
That to me has always been the biggest evidence that global warming is a cult and a fraud. Whenever any data showed that global warming might not be happening, instead of rejoicing, the true believers either went in deep funk or lashed out at the non-believers like angry TV preachers.
Probably because CRU’s Dr. Phil Jones is a fraud and a charlatan. He is a thoroughly BAD man. Other than that, he's peachy.
