I make sure my patients see my wash my hands when I walk into a treatment room, then put on gloves. I had it drummed into me as a surgery resident. One of the major medical discoveries historically was that washing hands saved lives and decreased infection. No other discovery including antibiotics has lowered infection rates as much as this one. Amazing that something so basic still needs to be reinforced.

Young docs make sure their patients see them wash their hands before examining them.

Old docs try to get through an examination without touching the patient thus saving a hand washing.
