No. They only have a chip on their shoulders. Old bears who have broken their teeth - which have abscessed and causing a 24/7 tooth ache are the worst. There is absolutely no reasoning with them.

A close encounter with a large coastal griz (brown bear) is not likely to be as bad with one of the damned little interior barren ground griz. They operate on a firecracker fuse and are generally severely urinated before they even see you.
