I met a retired builder at the bar ("The Cottage")of the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid, not far from Saranac, and he told me about a luxury real estate development he visited in the western Adirondacks that was miles in from the road, surrounded by 12-15 foot high fencing and patrolled by armed guards.

He asked me "What do you think is going on up there? I mean, do you think those guys were there to protect the place from black bears?"

I said, "It sounds like a secure compound for the very rich to retreat to when society collapses."

He nodded his head and said, "That's exactly what I thought."

Not bad, if you can afford it. I don’t know if I’d trust work-for-pay security guards though, in a SHTF scenario.
