Those who oppose war are not free not to pay taxes for it. Why? We have a representative, constitutional republic. Your district voted for your representatives, they have debated the issues of what does and does not get taxed, and the anti-war side lost.

The same with other legitimately debated issues that have come before our legislature, including education. (Abortion, however, has never been debated. It has been imposed by judicial fiat.)

And those Founders in 1787 who pushed education as the responsibility of government were not godless socialists. Socialism had not reared its political head at that point in time.

Defending the nation and citizens from attack is a fundamental responsibiity of government. It is why people form governments. Over 150,000 years of human existence, those cultures who refused to defend the borders or were incapable of doing so, don't last long.

As for our people's school collectives ( oops! “school boards”), the reason we have the First Amendment is to protect the individual from the voting mob. The voting mob has no right ( under God) to violate First Amendment Rights. Government schools crush every First Amendment Right and are a fundamental freedom of conscience abomination!

In government schools children are ordered by government functionaries to remain silent for most of their school day. Their speech is strictly controlled by the government prison guards ( oops! workers). The voting mob has no right to do that.

The child's right to free press is strictly controlled. The voting mob has no right to do that.

The child has no freedom of association. It is the government workers who issue the orders as to whom the child will assemble. ( Too bad if it is the local drug pusher!) The voting mob has no right to do that.

Government schools establish the religion of godless secular humanism. Just to cooperate in the classroom, read the textbooks, and turn in the assignments the child must think and reason godlessly. How could it be otherwise? How could this be religiously neutral? The voting mob has no right to impose any religious worldview on anyone or force the taxpayers to pay for it.

Government school strictly restrict free expression and practice of religion. The voting mob has no right to do this.

Finally....There is no possible way that the above can be resolved. The only solution is to begin privatizing K-12 education.

As for our Founders, they would be appalled to see our prison-like and Prussian-model “schools”. When they spoke of education they likely had their **own** educations in mind. This included homeschooling, private tutoring, limited attendance at a one room school organized by parents, dame schools, apprenticeships, and for the wealthiest prep academies in the homes of private tutors to prepare the intellectually gifted child for college in their **early** teens.

Horace Mann, the father of America's modern schooling, didn't exert his influence until after many of the Founders were dead.
