I can tell you that the male coqui frogs have a very loud mating chirp. Our bedroom is only 30 feet from the jungle, (just outside of Hilo) and without earplugs we would not be able to sleep. They can be killed by citric acid or hydrated lime if one can find them. They are quiet during the day except if the weather is overcast and raining.

When I was a kid we lived by Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring TX, it was a training base for pilots. All day and all night there were T-37’s, T-38’s and the occasional f-105 Starfire from the fighter squadron traveling the flight pattern that went right over out house. We were so used to it that on the nights they wasn't flying we couldn't sleep.
