Van Halen will tour in 2012.
The rock band has posted a video on its website announcing that the first tickets will go on sale Jan. 10.
Pretty big news in the Rock World. David Lee Roth, the original to join em. And this was always my favorite, the 80s seem like yesterday huh?

Without Michael Anthony, it ain’t Van Halen.
Roth was booted out. When they toured with him again they booted him out a second time because "We remembered why we booted him out the first time"
Good singer- but his attitude killed Rock for me in many ways. I realized how stupid a lot of it was.
On the upside, I now have an appreciation for ANY kind of music that is of real true quality. (I have even liked a rap song or two)
Video on the site is kinda cool.
What hapened to Michael Anthony? (bass player)
Of all the players I can easily see him being replaced. I bet you and I are the only 2 here who knew his name.
Not anyhing against him- he played some decent bass.
The Geritol tour......
Yeah, Sammy Hagar’s book “Red” is a great read. Lots of insight into Van Halen. He pulls no punches. I never realized how sloppy and dirty Eddie was. Hagar says Eddie was a slob, his house was a mess, he wore the same dirty clothes, etc. etc. His teeth were rotting out even.
Great book. Hagar’s probably the most “normal” of all of em.
>>Video on the site is kinda cool.>>
It is! I hadn’t checked out until you said it cool. Thanks!
Anthony’s backing vocals were a key piece of the VH sound.
I was in the Marine Corps then and I went with three Marine buddies. Good thing they didn't test us for drugs when we returned to base. We didn't take any drugs personally but there was a perpetual cloud of marijuana smoke all around us. We were really worried.
First and last time I ever went to a rock festival as we ended up sitting in a disgusting mudbath and we stank for days afterwards. But the music was top notch. Also there that weekend was U2, Scorpions, David Bowie, Stevie Nicks and a bunch of other big names. Steve Wozniak (of Apple) shook our hands on our way through the gates. We had no idea who he was and what Apple was all about at the time but he seemed like a nice enough guy.
Getting back to Van Halen, I remember in the concert David Lee Roth was smashed out of his mind. But he knew how to get the crowd fired up, even if he did forget all the lyrics and pranced around like a madman. He was really upset with The Clash at the time for some reason as he really ragged on them.
One of the top rock frontmen of all time but he looks to be about 70 years old today.
I’ve heard he is a meth addict, but don’t know for sure.
“What hapened to Michael Anthony?”
He’s currently playing in Chickenfoot with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani and Chad Smith.
“Yeah, Sammy Hagars book Red is a great read.”
Ditto - very revealing.
>>Ive heard he is a meth addict, but dont know for sure.>>
Yeah, he sure looked like it. And had all the symptoms. Hopefully, whatever it was, he’s been able to conquer it. He is a great talent on the guitar. I have a personal theory his idol was/is Jimmy Page of Led Zep.
He just had all the same kind of mannerisms, dress, hair, etc. Page was just awesome on guitar. Probably best ever, IMHO.
Michael Anthony carried most of the backing vocals. The original VH sound was built on that.
>>>Sorry man, I’ve got to ask...Are you the JN Roberts ?>>>
Ahhh, you know who he is/was too huh? No, I’m not thee J.N. Roberts. Just a screename. But I grew up on So. Cal. and I remember he was simply the greatest most dominating desert racer of that time. Nobody could beat him, not Malcolm Smith, not anyone.
In my neighborhood, he was a god. I think he’s doing good and even races in the old timers class.
Interesting you know him....most people never heard of him. He’s a legend. (and a stuntman in Hollywood of course too, his main job, he’s been in several movies as a stuntman).
JN was the man...Heck even had a starring role in "Dust to Glory".
I was training to pull off a Baja 1000 solo attempt myself when the border wars started to heat up....then a divorce...I'm hoping now I'm back on my feet I can give the Vegas to Reno a go in a few years.
>>>Saw Van Halen at the US Festival in 1983 along with about a zillion other bands (it went on for three days straight). They were at the top of their game then.>>>
Yeah, 83 they were probably at the top. Glad you made it out of there alive. Those festivals seemed pretty scary at times. I think Hagar was with em at the next festival. He talks about it in his book.
He came on stage and ruined it for everyone because he started swearing on stage and they had to pull the TV coverage. Don’t remember was festival it was though. It’s in the book which is around here some place.
