Ultimately, they will be for personal protection at home. Does anybody have any suggestions for what type to get as a first-timer?

got my wife a Bersa .380 Thunderbolt. Not as much stopping power as I'd like (I carry an HK P2000 .40 cal) but it's a big step up from pepper spray and a whistle - and, after 2 years she definitely knows how to use it.

VERY NICE! For some reason I go straight from .380 (LCP) to .40 (XD). One of those could fill the gap very nicely. Have you fired it yet? Keep me posted.

The ergonomics look great. The slide serrations look like they provide a good grip. I have shot several pistols where they were little more than decoration.

Hoo, boy! Ask tht question here on Freep and get a thousand responses.

My own self, I think beginners should stick with revolvers and put a few thousand rounds of .38 through it before buying a semi, but you’ll always get a debate.

Hey, I take it you’re talking about the Springfirld Arms XD. I have the 40 cal version and like it a lot. Pretty close to 45 cal impact minus the big kickback.

My son’s unit is commenorating its deployment by making a deal with Sig Sauer for a 45 cal engraved and gold inlay weapon. Won’t tell you the price, but I’ll take possession of it sometime in March. The military Beretta 9 mm contract has ended. Sig Sauer will provide the next batch.

I recently bought a Taurus PT745. I was prepared for punishing recoil from the little .45, but the damn thing seems to kick less than my Walther PP .380. I guess the polymer frame is a factor?

I gave my Uncle a 1953 Browning A5 “Sweet Sixteen”, he’s regretted selling his since the 70’s.

I did get myself 8 flats of 16 gauge shells half price with free shipping from Cabelas.

Got one of these, but Christmas night I lost it in a horrible boating accident.

Good thing, too, because you would have had to save your lunch money to put gas in it.

Ah, no problem as long as you check the air pressure in the tires like Barry says.
