Man shoots self with pillow gun

ORANGE CITY, Fla.- Authorities in Florida said a man who awoke to the sound of his dog barking grabbed a gun from beneath his pillow and accidentally shot himself in the arm.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said John Ebberts of 16th Street, near Orange City, told officers his dog woke him up by barking at 2:32 a.m. and he apparently accidentally hit the trigger while pulling his Bond Arms Snake Slayer .410 shotshell/.45 Colt derringer from beneath his pillow, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Thursday.

Ebberts shot himself in the left forearm with a .410 shotshell. He was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach by EVAC ambulance for treatment.

That’s why I clicked on it.

I thought some guy created a way to shoot pillows at a velocities. I was expecting to have friends shoot pillows at him, and just for laughs, one of his friends puts a brick in a pillowcase and hit him.

And once he recovered from the hospital, they’d all laugh and laugh.

Loaded guns, knives, tomahawks, grenade launchers, ICBMS, swords or weapons of any sort in the bed with me seems risky. Somewhere where I can get them safely seems better and more comfortable. If someone made it all the way into the house undetected by the dogs and are standing over me when I prop open my eyes, the dogs would have some serious explaining to do.

Interesting gun. I don’t have the time but I plan on checking it out. Being a revolver you would think it would have a pretty firm trigger pull. Could he have had it cocked under his pillow?
