Yeah. Read the links. Sounds like they were using Geonics earth conductivity meters (EM31, EM34). You can determine conductivity changes in six distinct layers and extrapolate from there. Superstring?

It is just earth resistivity measurements that have been around for almost 100 years. Made better and easier with computers.
I imagine the reporter meant “Super Sting” (”Sting - electrical shock) - which is a good brand, and one of the first to make use of the computers.
