This is freaking me out a little bit. I’m in Chicago, IL and I was hearing weird noises as I lay in bed this afternoon. First, A “knock” at my bedroom door woke me at 11 am. But nobody else was home. Then as I turned on the news, not wanting to get out of bed cuz I was feeling under the weather, I kept hearing noises. A few times it sounded like thunder, then a minute later it would sound like thumps, at times there was a swooshing sound I can’t describe cuz it was indistinct. I even muted the tv a couple times because it was odd sounding and I thought “what the heck is that?” I got out of bed and thought nothing of it again till reading this thread tonight.

A while back I lived near the arctic circle and would go out on my balcony (when a lack of wind allowed me to pry the door open) to watch the northern lights. I was sure that they made a weird noise... a soft swooshing sound with a bit of a hum to it.
The noise in some of the videos reminded me of them, but the noise in the videos was much louder. The auroras' sound was subtle, eerie, ephemeral... ebbing and flowing with the dance of the lights.
