A U.S. special operations team of Navy SEALs rescued two aid workers in Somalia Tuesday night, including a U.S. woman who had been held hostage for three months by Somali kidnappers and suffered from a life-threatening medical condition.
Jessica Buchanan, 32, of Bedford, Va., and Poul Hagen Thisted, 60, of Denmark, were abducted Oct. 25 by a band of Somalis while on their way to the airport in Galcayo, located in central Somalia. Both were working for the Danish Refugee Council's Danish Demining Group, and had just finished a training course for local Somali citizens when they were abducted.
In a statement released by the White House, President Obama said he had authorized a rescue mission Monday.
"Thanks to the extraordinary courage and capabilities of our Special Operations Forces, yesterday Jessica Buchanan was rescued and she is on her way home. As Commander-in-Chief, I could not be prouder of the troops who carried out this mission, and the dedicated professionals who supported their efforts," Obama said in the statement.

The US displays a little bit of its capabilities. Go Seals!
It is good to hear that “relief” workers in a country as poor and ravaged by corruption and civil strife as Somalia have been saved.
When you stand back and look at how terrible conditions in that “country” are and the utter lawlessness (whether pirates, war-lords, roving bands of Muslim killers) you have to wonder why people are putting up with the conditions and allowing “thugs” to thwart relief efforts.
Then again, as we are learning in many countries, “Islam” is the solution and poverty, death, suffering, lack of freedom, corruption of leadership, are all part of what it means to be a Muslim country that has cleansed itself of “western” ways.
Still what the Seal team did is great news.
Why are we always told that Obama authorized it? Does anyone believe that the military is out just running wild,, freelancing anything they please? He always finds a way to say ‘look at me’. The turd,,,
How long before the administration sells these guys out, too?
Those silly Somalians better rethink their business model; piracy and kidnapping ain’t workin’ out so good.
And not only did he authorize it, but he planned it, supervised it, deployed with the team, and went shirtless into battle with a Glock in either hand and double-tapped every one of the pirates with a standard-issue Hollywood Bottomless Magazine!
SWOOOOOON!
(As reported by the Media)
Will they be arrested?
One dead skinny layin’ on the ground,
Line up your sights and fire another round.
Two dead skinnies layin’ on ground,
Line up your sights and fire another round.
&etc.
Hussein will get a bounce out of this, unfortunately.
Watch for his numbers to go down to around -15.
I mean “up” to -15. :-)
I’m thankful for our brave men and women, BUT I ask WHY NOW? Is this another Obama political ploy? No other president would make this a major accomplishment. Only Obama. Our special forces do these kind of things routinely, quietly. Now Obama acts like HE did it. He rescued embassy workers etc. NO. These are private workers. Why not hire then private mercinaries. Why are we risking our military? the only good thing for them, is they can say “we’re practicing.”
Now, how long will it take for these Navy Seals to be murdered after their mission?
Nice to hear of yet another SEAL success.
However, it would be healthier for our Special Operations units to do their work without any media coverage.
“And not only did he authorize it, but he planned it, supervised it, deployed with the team, and went shirtless into battle with a Glock”
...don’t forget Obama also trained the Navy Seals and flew the helicopter into the danger zone.
Ron Paul will be furious they didn’t get a full trial at the Hague and dinner at Smith & Wollensky.
Obama invented Special Ops. Hell! He invented war, except for amphibious ops. Nobody could walk on water except him.
