I might have misread something, but it sounds like it hasn’t been confirmed that this actually happened.

The lawyers have not yet responded to the author. That doesn’t indicate that nothing happened.
Why are some of the officers named? How did he get those injuries? Those are two questions that must be satisfactorily answered by those who insist the victim concocted a story.
