Shooting at DART Arapaho station, two dead so far including the perp.
I think she has finally seen the light. There is a reason for her to be armed. I can teach her to shoot, and coach her up to taking a CHL class. Problem is, the last time we went to a gun show together the only thing she picked up that she liked was a Browning Buckmark.
I can't have my woman packing a .22 target pistol. I have to let her pick something she likes the feel and handling of, so we'll do some more shopping. I'm thinking a small 9mm or .380, but she knows squat about firearms. Maybe a small .38 revolver, though I'll push her towards the license that includes both semiautos and non-SA handguns.
I don't know, I'll take her to a shop or another show and get her to handle a few more guns. I know her, she would shoot to kill if she was scared bad enough to present. She doesn't want to "blow big holes in somebody" and I have to work on that perception.
I'm still thinking snubby .38 with light loads. We'll see where this goes, but I think today was a big wakeup call for her.

A .38 is a very good choice. But, there is no need for light loads because she won’t know whether the hole is big or small until after the shooting is done. No matter what the load, the holes in range targets will look the same.
A hollow point + round ought to work, and it doesn’t look any scarier than other .38 rounds. In fact, you can tell her that hollow point “thingy” is a kinder, gentler round because of the hollow tip that ball rounds lack ;-) The bottom line is that you want your wife to be safe.

Go to a range that rents guns and let her try a few. If she has a problem with recoil with the 9’s and .38’s, have her try a .380. If it’s still a problem, my favorite fix is a S&W 351. It’s an 11 ounce seven shot .22 magnum available in both hammer and hammerless configurations. There’s new .22 mag defensive ammo available, and not only will if perforate the bad guy, he’ll be deaf and on fire too.
Before the naysayers chime in, Bill Jordan the well known pistolero and writer promoted a J frame .22 mag back in the 60’s as a backup gun for lawmen.
May I suggest the Ruger LC9?
This is like 5 or 6 shootings in a few months.

It will be interesting to see who shot the innocent bystander, the DART officer or the (dead) suspect.
Yassa, guy got pushed under a train a few months ago, and some shootings. I ride it sometimes when I go on a wander-about. Carry a bike and a .357, and I watch the goings on around me. It’s OK, consider how many people ride those trains. The odds are in my favor.
But there are some solid scumbags in those trains, fo sho. Most riders are normal people, but there are a few scary ones too. I make conversation, try to be friendly, but I watch out for the people that get on. You never know when the Crips will recognize the Bloods and start shooting.
Kimber or springfield 1911 .45 auto, fantastic stopping power, and very manageable recoil due to round being subsonic. It’s worth a try too, although I would recommend single stack magazines with a woman’s hand. Para ordnance makes a double stack too, but even myself with big hands... I find it doesn’t feel as natural.
show her the Kimber line. She may like it.

If anybody in this family gets a Kimber, I’ll be the proud owner of a nice 1911 Commander-style. She’ll be packing some S&W or something, I figure ;)
If she can't rack the slide then a Lady Smith in .38.
