Just today I heard her (knowingly) for the first time in my deep discount grocery store. She had a set of pipes, true, and a hysterical, operatic, uncontrolled style of singing. She was literally screaming in that song blasted from the ceiling. Yuck! Some listeners like it, OK.
Why her passing deserves a dozen threads on this forum is beyond me.
She inspired a whole generation of over-singers. And now everybody feels like they have to outdo her Star Spangled Banner performance, instead of singing it straight up like it should be.
