I DESPISE the Westminister Dog Show. Those dogs owners make Mitt look like THE best dog owner ever. I used to work X the street from Madison Square Garden. The boxing fans were better and classier, and more civil, than those dog owners.
Once, during the dog show, I happened into the former Gimbels Dept Store. They had a mannequin in couture, with a VERY expensive dress. It had to be changed because one of the dog owners let its little charge pee on the dress! Ask any sales clerk from any store in the vicinity of Madison Square Garden how much they just looooooooooove the dog show. The animals are on the wrong end of the leash.
Did you see mean-faced Martha Stewart at the show? She had entered her Chow named - so sweetly - Genghis Khan. I don’t think ole Khan won any medals.
Stewart looked exactly like the brilliant actress Parker Posey in “Best in Show”!!!
A lot of show people are jerks (like a lot of people period). I’ve never been to the Garden (it’s really just another dog show) but everyone I know whose been complains about the venue, they say it’s crowded etc. It’s never made me want to go and deal with it when I can watch it on tv.
But yeah, while it’s a great hobby, there are jerks involved and it doesn’t take many to turn people off. BTW we have this thing here (in S. FL) that seems to be very popular where people take their dogs into the mall! It’s weird. And not in the strollers, but on leashes. And into the stores now. I love dogs, but some of those little dogs are yappy and seem like they might bite. I’m just waiting for some little kid to get bitten. And I’ve also wondered how often clothing gets peed on too.
