Five members of a professional lacrosse team from New York state were arrested following an outburst with other patrons at a Bloomington restaurant that involved food, bottles and silverware being thrown, authorities said Wednesday.

The melee erupted shortly before 1 a.m. Monday at the T.G.I. Friday's across from the Mall of America and involved 20 to 30 people inside and then "spilling to the outside," Deputy Police Chief Rick Hart said.

"It started with someone tossing a menu," Hart said. "One of the groups didn't like it."

Before long, glasses, bottles, food and silverware were flying through the air, Hart said. The restaurant reported about $1,600 in damage to police.

The members of the Rochester Knighthawks -- Cody Jamieson, Sid Smith, Travis Hill, Jordan Hall and Tyler Burton -- were charged with misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors and appeared Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court and returned home that night, team president Lewis Staats said.

Also arrested and charged with misdemeanors were two T.G.I. Friday's patrons from the Twin Cities: Tyrissa Hart, 19, of Minneapolis, and Travis Davidson, 27, of Maplewood.

Indoor lacrosse - “Like Hockey - with balls”.

Grew up in Minnesota and loved hockey. I now really enjoy watching indoor lacrosse. They aren't pansies by any stretch of the imagination.

This is is box lacrosse, originally played in Canadian hockey arenas in the summer. In Canada box lacrosse is a working-class game most popular in Ontario and British Columbia; field lacrosse (the game of American colleges) is rare. Many of the Knighthawks are originally from Canada; some of them still live there and cross the border for practices and games. Relevantly for this story, most of the players named are Six Nations Indians, probably Iroquois, who grew up on reserves in Canada but have a form of dual Canadian-American citizenship guaranteed by the Jay Treaty of 1794. Some confirmation of this, including pictures of the named players, can be found on the roster page of the Knighthawks website.

As for the Minnesotans they had some kind of confrontation with, well, one is named Tyrissa. You can take it from there.
