In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
idoneous \ahy-DOH-nee-uhs\ adjective
Appropriate; fit; suitable; apt.
Example sentences:
As far as benefices are concerned no one could be more idoneous, fitting or suitable than Martin, since he is an Anglican clergyman.
-- Patrick O'Brian, The Truelove
It would hardly be possible to apply less idoneous adjectives to it than Watson's reiterated "wailing" and "haunting."
-- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone
Etymology:
Idoneous is derived from the Latin word idōneus which meant "suitable."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Halfway home. Lunching in Houston. 50 minutes in line at immigration.
Welcome back!
how long were you gone? seems like forever.
I left on Sunday the 29th. So, 19 days.
I found some Diet Dew so I bought two.
that’s your lunch?
did you bring enough clean underpants for that long? ; )
leave it to the class mom to be concerned about whether he has clean underwear.
No, that’s my aperitif.
One good thing about being in Mexico with someone who speaks Spanish: you can go to a local lavanderia and they’ll do a week’s worth of clothes for about $5.
i wondered how you were doing in the lavanderia, LOL!
not speaking Spanish...let me guess...lavender boxers?
Hotels will do it for ya, too. But for a lot more than $5!
i didn’t figure you for the let the hotel do it kind of guy, but wasn’t quite sure how you would navigate the engaging of a laundress at the lavanderia.
Imaginr you bought 4-5 washers and 4-5 dryers from Sears and set them all up in a small concrete room and people paid you to wash, dry and fold their clothes for you.
So you spend 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week washing clothes.
Congratulations! You’re a lavandaria.
Sure, I’d usually have the hotel do it. It’s not my money. I’m sure not going to a laundromat in a weird country after working all day long.
Anyone watching FOX? Whitney Houston did kill herself. I have to agree with BORe. Flags at half mast, mourning her like a hero. What is wrong with people?
Just last week a former patient of mine died of drug abuse. He was much younger than Whitney. What a waste. Famous or not.
[* Astro FunFact: Subaru is Japanese for the Pleiades, or "Seven Sisters" star cluster (hence the logo). The familiar term comes from the seven nymphs (apropos) of Greek Mythology.]
Just got home from actually getting paid some money for a little tile job-not much, but it was all she had till the 1st and I’m grateful for it-nice customers are so hard to find...
Don’t look now-he’s baaaack-
Our favorite alarmist, Al Gore,
Priest of idoneous scare tactics
Has reappeared at the media’s door
Asking that we give generously
To his latest warming fight-
Never mind that it isn’t real-
More money will make it all right
Capitalism must be green, he says
We’ll all profit, wait and see-
Meanwhile, control your carbon
And send those dollars to me...
I’m so sorry to hear that-I lost clients to substance abuse when I was a casemanager, and so so did MrT5 when he worked at the VA-they were all human beings, most of them nice, but troubled people who were oblivious to the consequences of their actions, and didn’t accept responsibility for any of their choices in life.
If I had anything to do with it, flags would be at half mast and hysterical people would be howling over them, instead of some talented, rich celebrity who had a lot more chances to right their lives and go to something besides Club Med vacation therapy than any ordinary person. “Real” therapy for substance abuse is not a vacation.
I heard Gene Simmons on some show last night talking about personal responsibility-saying that acting like Whitney Houston was not complicit in her death was “pathetic”-and I agree wholeheartedly with him.
A+ for you! Well done!
