Gas prices mentioned in 97 stories in one month of 2008 coverage, compared to just 21 in 2012.
Rising gas prices used to be big news, but not so these days. Although the national average climbed to $3.56 on Feb. 20, setting a February record after going up nearly a month straight, there was far less coverage than in 2008. Broadcast networks repeatedly covered the rise under the Bush presidency. Gas prices bounced around eventually reaching $3.56-a-gallon on April 24, 2008.
The Business and Media Institute analyzed broadcast network news references to gas or fuel prices between Jan. 20 and Feb. 20, 2012 and from March 24 and April 24, 2008. BMI found that in the 2008 period there were more than 4 times as many gas prices stories, news briefs or news headlines on ABC, CBS and NBC as there were in 2012 (97 to 21).

Dismal broadcast network reports about “skyrocketing” gas prices filled the newscasts in 2008. There were reports about businesses closing, airlines struggling and truckers protesting -- all because of the high prices. One ABC report said families were facing the “tough choice” between food or fuel. Others said that “wallets were running on empty” and consumers were told over and over that there was no relief in sight. But by the end of November 2008, prices had collapsed to $1.82.

But now, in 2012, gas prices stories are very different. “[W]e’re seeing gas prices creep up every single week,” said one ABC reporter after delivering a positive economic report about the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing in on 13,000 for the first time since 2008. One CBS story just pointed out that if certain steps are taking against Iran, gas prices everywhere could move sharply higher.

As a side note, a Chicago friend notes on facebook that gas prices soared another $0.40 there just TODAY.
And where are the Senate investigations? Anyone? Beuller? Fry?
This perfectly illustrates the corrupt propaganda that spews from our networks and their so-called “news.”
The lowest gas prices that I recall from the past couple of decades were when Newt Gingrich reigned in the out-of-control government. After the "Contact with America" took hold, gas prices slid to 77 cents a gallon here in North Texas.

O’Reilly is back at it. The moment gas prices go up, he starts to whip up his class war dobbin blaming corporations, offering not a single shred of proof. He and his sidekick Juan Williams were so shrill and were prancing so hideously, it made me think I was watching one of Reverend-Yeah-Right Jeremiah Wright freak shows.
The media does not blame hussein, it PRAISES him for the rising gas prices. They say it is because the economy is starting to boom.
Under Bush it was reported as "SOARING GAS PRICES!" "RECORD HIGH FUEL PRICE!" "GAS PRICE HURTING THE POOR!"
You get the idea.
They are already playing defense for him on the issue...
Yeah I know. BOR obviously is not a student of world economy or the concept of capitalism.
Sure, he sure he’s a warrior for the “folks” but is misguided on this front. The “folks” are shareholders and consumers. Some are both. BOR is advocating taking from one group “shareholders” for the benefit of another “consumers”.
Is this not socialism?
The natural gas industy is a perfect example of what happens when we unleash capitalism: 70% reduction of the cost of nat gas at the wellhead. I’m not saying the same can happen with oil, but we can do more by allowing those in the business to operate.
But BOR wants socialism by jawboning.
The press hated Bush. They love Barry. That ain’t news. It ain’t fair. But it ain’t news.
But more importantly, most of the stories will prominently mention that there is “nothing” or “little” that a President can do about gas prices.
Whereas with Bush, it was always that he WASN’T doing anything. Which in some ways is true, since first there is little he CAN do, and second the few things he WANTED to do, the democrats blocked.
I’ll bet biased reporting also includes how unemployment is covered - and ‘the homeless’. The MSM deserves to go under...
No one - not one soul - will see that chart on any mainstream network news show. Not ABC, CBS, or NBC ... not the New York Times or the Washington Post or any of the dem knee pad “news” organizations.

The Last time gas prices were this hig, the media was covering Demonstrations outside the White House demanding that Bush RESIGN...
Where are those people now?
What really pisses me, he never offers so much as a morsel of proof. It’s always slogans and shout outs. Honest journalism requires providing facts and figures, and we will draw our own conclusions. He, at the very least, could invite a panel of experts to debate the issue in real time. Althoght is too useless, since he would interrupt them and deliver speeches instead. If he wishes to oppine, let him not be a nobbinscrubble.
We don’t need the useless media to report on rising gas prices under Obama. The people know about the high prices each time they fill up, and they know it’s due to Obama’s anti-energy policies. As Bob Dylan once sang: “I don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Even the media can’t save Obama from public opinion on this one because people have first-hand knowledge of the issue.
