Obama expresses 'deep regret' over Koran burning

US President Barack Obama sent Afghan President Hamid Karzai a letter of apology over the burning of copies of the Koran overseen by a US officer at a US military base, Karzai's office said Thursday.
Obama said the incident was unintentional and pledged a full investigation, the president's office said, as fierce anti-US protests swept the nation in which at least 14 people have died, including two American soldiers.
"I wish to express my deep regret for the reported incident," Obama wrote in the letter presented to Karzai by US ambassador Ryan Crocker. "I extend to you and the Afghan people my sincere apologies."
"The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible," the letter said.

Afghanistan is a deeply religious country where slights against Islam have frequently provoked violent protests, and many Afghans are incensed at the discovery of charred Korans at the Bagram base.

Instead of Mr. Obama groveling and sending our gays and women to be shot at by these medieval miscreants.....we need to burn the country to the ground, then bomb the rubble until they beg us to stop making it bounce.
Or, much cheaper, let the special forces have their way. It could be over in 6 months and you wouldn't even read about it in the news.

There is a reason for that, and it comes straight from Obama’s own lips, to the Egyptian ambassador in January of 2010. The Egyptian ambassador said that Obama told him in private that he was and still is a Muslim who supports the Muslim agenda. And that’s exactly what he’s done.

The afghan that shot and killed the 2 and wounded 2 more threw his gun on the ground and at that point the rules of engagement prevented our troops from shooting him because he was unarmed and he knew it. The media isnt telling you that, are they. I got this from one of the soldiers who was 20 feet from where it happened.
Funny, no mention of the 2 US soldiers who were murdered by an Afghani soldier. Is our great Commander in Chief placing a greater value on a book, or the lives of our soldiers? Seems to me that he continues to seek to win friends by appeasement; some people just never learn from history. There is no appeasement with evil.

Obama cares more about the feelings of Muslims around the world more than he cares about the Catholic Church and Christians in the country he is supposed to be President of. How can anybody with half a brain not see the disparity?
Did the rules of engagement allow them to capture him and interrogate him? Can we demand a PUBLIC trial (by jury) for that guy - in the United States (like Karzai wants for whoever burned the Korans? I’d love to be on that jury...
Somebody said that the Korans were burned because prisoners had put encrypted messages in them. I wonder if there are any Islamic rules about what people can write in their Koran.
Our military people should mess up the messages the prisoners put in the Korans, so the prisoners think the message says something else. They should make the message say something like “Mohammad was a wuss”.

It’s not appeasement of an enemy. I believe it’s delivering on the promises he made to his Islamist friends - the ones who made untrackable contributions to his campaign, in return for his using his position in the White House to pave the way for the return of the Mahdi within Obama’s first term (as Ahmadinejad believed at the time that Obama was running for POTUS). After a year in office, Obama was still working on Obamacare so he privately told the Egyptian ambassador in January of 2010 that the Muslim world needed to be patient with him - that he was and still is a Muslim who supports the Muslim agenda, but that he had to get Obamacare passed before he could turn his focus on the world Muslim agenda.
