How sad that I can’t share the experience of listening to LJN for as late as I could stay up over a period of many years. The Wikipedia misses many important items.

Every Halloween Nebel held a seance with Houdini’s widow, in an effort to contact Houdini because he promised that if there was an afterlife, he would try to contact his wife. There was always a candle. On one occasion or another the medium revealed something characteristic of Houdini and all were shocked. However, after many years of failed attempts, Mrs. Houdini blew out the candle and gave up her efforts.

Nebel spent months weaving the most intricate stories: That late at night, the Empire State Building was rotated ever so slightly on giant ball bearings; That the best candle wicks were grown on “wick farms” in a certain state.

Callers would call and tell Nebel “I hope the cancer gets you” and call him a Kike. He would tell them to go to that jar of formaldehide where they keep their brain and put it back in.

He was always good natured and fun. But it was raw late night radio.

I used to be able to stay up late listening to Bob Grant at the top of his game, followed by LJN.

To put it mildly, George Nori and even Art Bell are total bores compared to LJN. If you can listen to a tape, try him out.

Correction, LJN recreated the Houdini seance, Mrs. Houdini had given up many years before.
